Harley-Davidson Softail description

I bought this bike for my wife last year after she obtained her motorcycle license.  Since that time, she has become a sport bike track enthusiast like me.  We are selling this Softail Slim to make room in our garage for dedicated track bikes.

This Softail Garage Queen was purchased from an executive from Alabama with 900 miles on it (~ equal to the engine break in period), so we are second owners.  The bike is in mint condition, and is considered to be in showroom quality with a single faintly visible blemish from a rock chip experienced while riding.  The rock chip blemish shown in the pics has been corrected with Harley Davidson touch up paint.  I do not observe any other blemishes.

The bike has never been downed, never dropped, never fallen, never bumped in the garage, never driven in the rain, and it was wiped down after every ride with a quick mist detailer and a soft microfiber cloth.

Manual, key & lock are included along with accessories described below.

During the winter it was stored in a heated garage and during the summer in an insulated garage.  When the bike was parked in the garage, the battery was maintained with a Harley-Davidson Battery Tender.

Pricing note.  The bike is priced reasonably given its upgrades, low miles and mint condition.  The auction will start at $13,500 and only serious qualified bidders are invited.  Understand that there is no reserve price on this listing once the starting bid of $13,500 has been placed.   The high Blue Book value of this bike is $13,845 plus $640.5 value given to upgrades = $14,485.5.  This extra $640 is calculated at 55% x Harley Davidson upgrade accessories plus 30% x aftermarket upgrades.

Accessories include:
Harley-Davidson luggage rack (not currently installed)
Harley-Davidson Passenger Pillion seat
Harley-Davidson Passenger foot pegs (not yet installed and in the original box)
Harley-Davidson upgraded comfort seat, retails at $350 (OEM seat is also included and to my knowledge unused)
Harley-Davidson chrome flame covers as pictured
Harley-Davidson Mustache Engine Guard (retail $270)
After Market Roland Sands adjustable clutch and brake levers purchased from Revzilla (not installed and in original box, retail $140)

Update:
Looking over my records, and verifying with Harley Davidson Mobile Alabama, this bike had its 1,000 mile service completed on 6/12/15.  You can verify this by calling them and sharing the VIN number.  If you desire a different inspection than that, you are free to pay for that in addition to the cost of the bike.

Shipping:
Buyer is responsible for shipping costs.  I recommend using UShip.com if you are purchasing from a great distance outside of the state of IL.  In the past, I have purchased other motorcycles from Ebay and have used Uship twice without significant issues.  I did experience one shipper who suffered a "truck breakdown" which caused a one week delay in receiving the bike.  I have had no issues with damages/scratches during transport.  In the past, when I used Uship, I have paid between $500-600 for a one way transfer of a motorcycle across the country.

Payment:
At the close of the auction, $500 is due through paypal payable within 48 hours.  The remaining is due in cash or wired funds at a mutually agreed upon date (no later than 14 calendar days).  If you are local or traveling to pick up the bike, but do not feel comfortable taking a large quantity of cash, an exception can be made by using a local cashiers check if the transaction is concluded at the issuing bank during normal banking hours.  If this format is preferred, we will have to coordinate the sale using a suitable mutually agreed upon bank.

With respect to wired funds, here is what I have done in the past.

After $500 has been deposited, wiring instructions will be given to the buyer.  Upon receipt of good wired funds, a fully executed title along with a photocopy of the sellers drivers license (home address is current) will be shipped to the buyer via next day air service.  If you desire a reference check, you may call my bank.  At the moment that funds are received, the bike belongs to the buyer and proof of that is an executed title that has been next day aired to you.  The bike will be maintained in a locked garage for a reasonable time period until transport arrangements can be executed by the buyer.

If you are still uneasy about a transaction with wired funds despite a banking credit check, I can appreciate this especially if you have not had prior experience with buying through Ebay.  As a solution, may I suggest considering to use Escrow.com for the purchase.  I have not used escrow.com before, but I am open to the idea of using them, or an alternate suitable escrow company chosen by the buyer.  This should allay any concerns of fraudulent intentions on the seller's part.  Please understand that if we use the services of Escrow.com, all fees/costs of the service will be paid for by the buyer in addition to the cost of the motorcycle.

Seller's Preference
The seller retains the ability to cancel the transaction if the buyer exhibits actions which are incompatible with a good faith transaction.

Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight and Roller Derby? [Video]

Thu, 10 Jun 2010

Canadian publication Cycle Canada had some fun on a photoshoot for its review of the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight for the July issue. As Pete wrote in our own review, the Harley-Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight has a rugged, bobber-inspired look with its chopped fender, chubby front tire and underslung mirrors. For the guys over at Cycle Canada, the Forty-Eight conjured up a rather odd image: roller derby.
