Harley-Davidson Softail description

Up for auction is a 1988 Harley-Davidson FXSTC Softail Custom. The mileage on this bike is 43025. This bike has been garage kept but not used for a few years. Fresh gas with stabilizer was added last season but I have not been able to get the bike started this season. My hunch is that the carburetor may need to be cleaned. I installed new spark plugs and the battery is about 6 months old and is currently on a trickle charger. The oil tank was replaced approximately 5 years ago. Here are a few issues that I’m aware of:  every year in the beginning of riding season, when starting the bike for the first time, I have to disconnect the crankcase breather tube from the air filter and connect a funnel because oil usually drips out – I hear that this is a known issue with Harleys. There is a crack in the right side mirror as shown in one of the pictures. Also, ever since I bought the bike the petcock used to turn on the gas is tight. These are all the issues I’m aware of.  I have the saddle bags and windshield.  I’m currently downsizing and moving in a few weeks and I can’t take the bike. The buyer will be responsible for pick up or shipping.  Feel free to ask questions.

Blues Brothers Too Old for Harley-Davidson 110th Anniversary Celebration?

Fri, 10 May 2013

Comedian Dan Aykroyd says he offered to bring his Blues Brothers act to Harley-Davidson‘s 110th Anniversary celebrations but was turned down because H-D executives said the act was too old for the company’s target demographics. Aykroyd, playing the role of Elwood J. Blues with the late John Belushi playing “Joliet” Jake Blues, posted a statement on his official Facebook page suggesting Elwood is trading in his Harley-Davidson motorcycle for a Can-Am Spyder.

New Harley-Davidson Sportster for India to Use 500cc V-Twin

Thu, 03 Jan 2013

When Harley-Davidson first entered the Indian market, The Motor Company decided to import existing models as complete knockdown kits for final assembly in the burgeoning market. Considering the average motorcycle in India has a displacement smaller than 200cc, it was inevitable Harley-Davidson would eventually have to produce a small-displacement model rather than rely on its existing product line which currently lists the 883cc sportsters as its smallest bikes. Despite a denial last May by Harley-Davidson India’s Managing Director Anoop Prakash, it now appears Harley-Davidson is set to announce a new small-displacement model to be produced in India at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo next February.
