Bobbed a little more. 14" Chubby Outlawz bars, new cables, HID headlamp, LED front and rear turn signals, side mount license plate, WORKS front an rear suspension, lots of powder coat, new wheel bearings & neck bearings, heads ported and polished, Big valves, SE 103 ci pistons, 10:1 pistons, HD clutch pressure plate, Mackey 585 cams, high flow air cleaner, VNH long shots wrapped (appox 4000 on motor build) 48K on bike, factory repair manual and bike cover included. Tank original cobalt blue with ghost flames. The feeling rings true today as it did 72 years ago, when Wallace Van Sandt, of Birmingham, Alabama, took delivery of his 1941 Harley-Davidson WLD Special Sport Solo, purchased new in 1940 for $365 (roughly $5800 in today’s money) by his father as a high school graduation gift. The WLD Special Sport Solo was a ringer in its day.

Thu, 10 Jun 2010Canadian publication Cycle Canada had some fun on a photoshoot for its review of the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight for the July issue. As Pete wrote in our own review, the Harley-Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight has a rugged, bobber-inspired look with its chopped fender, chubby front tire and underslung mirrors. For the guys over at Cycle Canada, the Forty-Eight conjured up a rather odd image: roller derby.
