Harley-Davidson Sportster description

This is a Rare ’81 1000cc Commemorative Sportster.  Known as the “Buy Back Bike“ or “Milwaukee Special”.  It is the same model as featured on the One Hundred Year Anniversary Harley Davidson Commemorative Painting and Poster. A genuine piece of Harley Davidson's History, celebrating Harley Davidson's rebirth and return into private ownership from AMF. Only 804 of these motorcycles were produced.  One for every Harley Dealership, one extra for the top 100 Harley Dealers, and 4 for promotional purposes. I purchased this bike in August 2006. The previous owner had owned this bike for over 13 years. Original factory paint, not repainted, and is not cracked.  The maintenance has been done well above anything required.  I change the oil and filter at about every 1500 miles and I run only Castrol oil.  New top end, tires, new o-ring, chain and both sprockets less than 2200 miles ago. Heads were rebuilt completely, including new springs, retainers, and much higher quality valves and guides.  The pistons have been re-ringed, the tolerances for piston to cylinder clearance was well within factory spec and the cylinder taper was less than 1/1000" so there was no need to bore out the cylinders.  It has a factory cam in it, not any type of radical cam. No leaks and all the aluminum on the bike has been stripped and polished.  It also has a new battery. I keep gas stabilizer in it during winter. Very near 100% original (not the stock pipes). This is the best maintained bike you will ever see. If you want something that no one has or you collect, this is the one. I want to see someone buy it who will treat it with respect.  This bike will only gain in value as the years progress.  Fun to ride, and just down right cool.

Showdown: 2022 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Limited Vs Indian Pursuit Limited Premium

Tue, 24 May 2022

Hollister on The Big Ones, via San Andreas Fault: Will California slide into the sea? Who are we to question the motorcycles red-blooded Americans love most? Harley-Davidson sells more Street Glides than it does Road Glide Limiteds (which basically adds the frame-mounted fairing and trunk), but the song remains the same.

35 years ago this month

Fri, 28 May 2010

IT'S 35 YEARS since Evel Knievel attempted to jump 13 London buses at Wembley Stadium. Riding a heavy, slow Harley-Davidson XR750, the American daredevil had serious reservations about the jump, admitting the take-off ramp was too short, therefore limiting the bike's speed. But even though the plucky American knew his chances of pulling off the stunt were slim, he was reluctant to disappoint the 80,000-strong Wembley crowd.

Owner of Tsunami-Tossed Harley-Davidson Found in Japan

Wed, 02 May 2012

Harley-Davidson representatives in Japan have identified the owner of the motorcycle lost in last year’s tsunami but later found on a remote beach in Canada. The 29-year-old owner, Ikuo Yokoyama, lives in Yamamoto, Japan, in Miyagi Prefecture, the region hardest hit by the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami. Yokoyama survived the disaster but lost three family members and is still living in temporary accommodations.
