US Motorcycle Thefts Down 6% in 2011

Americans reported 46,667 motorcycle thefts in 2011, a 6% decrease from 49,791 stolen motorcycles in 2010, reports the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Despite the drop in reported thefts, the non-profit organization representing nearly 1100 property and casualty insurance companies says the theft rate still averages out to one motorcycle stolen every 11 minutes in the U.S. The numbers were published in the NICB’s 2011 ForeCAST Report which examined theft reports as well as recoveries.

Michael Jackson was not known for riding motorcycles, he did own a 2001 Harley-Davidson that was on the action block earlier this year that was listed for $6,000 – $8,000, I never heard if it was sold or not.  We all have our different opinions about the mega pop star but we can all agree that he was larger than life and truly a boy in a mans body, case in point, take a look at the “Speed Demon” video that features Jackson on a bicycle, motorcycle and scooter, sort of… The “Speed Demon” video is available after the jump. Harley-Davidson Consolidates Businesses in Spain, Portugal and Italy

In response to the continuing economic struggles in southern Europe, Harley-Davidson announced it will combine its operations in Spain, Portugal and Italy into a single business unit to be called SPI Motor Company. Harley-Davidson says the new company, which officially begins operating immediately, will be better positioned to respond to the challenges of the market. The new company will be led by Regional Managing Director of Operations Yves-Olivier Allamagny, formerly the director of Harley-Davidson Italy.
