Harley-Davidson Other description
1968 Harley-Davidson Sporster XLCH 900cc IRON HEAD - PRE-OWNED one owner $6600. OBO. This is what legends are made of! Owned all 45 yrs by licensed mechanic. SURVIVOR Bike never chopped (original K-series frame), and is 95% original. The Sportster Iron-head is the equivalent of the 'bib' Harleys Shovel-head.The carb has just been re-built and installed. The brake light, headlight & dimmer, twin mirrors, grips, foot rests are all there and original. The rims on the bike are chrome, but the original front aluminum rims is included; the front tire is factory stock, but the current rear tire is a Dunlap MT 90 H16 touring tire with rain tread; the mechanical tach and speedometer are from a '62 Harley (owner traded away factory cluster at swap meet many years ago); the chrome pipes have been replaced (PHD-112T) since new; and the bike does not have the optional padlock loop (but the fitting holes are factory if you can locate lock loop). This will take only a little effort to be fully original. The owner will include all extra parts, and manuals he has collected at swap meets over the years with the purchase of the bike (including the white saddle bags not shown) and the original title . Some things unique to this year model are that it shifts on the right side, and it requires no battery.... the factory 6 v Fairbanks Morse magneto kicks it over and the factory generator runs the lamps... and it's all steel. This Sparkling Burgendy Harley looks and runs well. with 78,zero miles, and only 500 of the 78,000mis in the last ten years (trips to Ground Zero). The paint is not original, but a nice match, and the name badge could go back on (Dana didn't care, he said there is no mistaking her in a crowd). This bike displays well and really is an important part of Harley's history, the year before AMF took over the company. Someone would get a lot of pleasure out of detailing AND RIDING this beauty! The 883cc (55ci) overhead valve, air-cooled 45-degree V-twin iron head has always been maintained and serviced as needed by owner mechanic. The original white seat and back rest really set off the deep burgundy finish. Would like to sell to a 2nd owner that would appreaciate her. Harley only made 1,975 of these, when produced they held the land speed record for a production bike... nothing could even come close. They began it all... Evil owned more than a few of these gems, and pre-owned them stock. Most of the 1,975 that were built were either chopped, dropped, or bopped... hard to find a SURVIVOR original not restored (eat your heart out Bronson). The bike is PRE-OWNED and was ridden with normal signs of use, including a couple of small dents (1 on front fender, chrome pipe and on on chrome Bosch regulator cover) what you might expect from a well ridden 45yr old (not to be confused with cousin Darlene). This bike has made a few trips to "Ground Zero" and is hard for owner to part with .... The owner has the original 1968 CT Title. Needs a good home but it will run like hell if you want. Don't miss this piece of Harley history, held 1968 record for fastest open bike at Bonneville! Last on the road for a carb test on July 19, 2012 and it performs as it should. Pictures are of actual bike, just uncovered... not cleaned up. Please NO TEXT MESSAGES... EMAIL all questions through CraigsList (I'm not a bike guy) and I'll get you an answer, and CALL for showing with owner and purchase details ... (local)Yes, this item is still available, in condition as described and for the asking price listed. THANK YOU
