This is an original 1949 Harley FL Panhead. The bike was parked in 1982 and has not been run since. It is a great piece for someone looking to restore an original Panhead.
All original parts, no repop. It's only missing a few parts like the clutch, air cleaner, brake pedal bracket, generator, relay, muffler and some hardware. The engine cases match. No broken fins on heads or cylinders. Correct 49 heads and cylinders with M36 linkert carb. Front left motor mount will need a minor repair. Very common repair. Trans date code is K8. Trans case has a small weld repair that can be easily cleaned up. Frame is early 49 style with #18 neck forging. All tabs intact. Never cut or repaired and no missing tabs. All casting numbers visible. Gas tanks are clean and free of any rust inside. Original Fox Co. emblems, nice original stewart warner speedo. Correct 49 only front fender with -49 Guide Buck Rogers fender light. Rear fender has complete set of real Sgt. stripes and guide tail light. The two motorcycles feature the new liquid-cooled Revolution X engine, a narrow, agile chassis with a low seat height (26.3 inches), new suspension, a wide handlebar and minimalist styling. Not all markets will get both engine sizes, but the U.S. will. The 500 costs $6700 and the 750 is $7500.

The feeling rings true today as it did 72 years ago, when Wallace Van Sandt, of Birmingham, Alabama, took delivery of his 1941 Harley-Davidson WLD Special Sport Solo, purchased new in 1940 for $365 (roughly $5800 in today’s money) by his father as a high school graduation gift. The WLD Special Sport Solo was a ringer in its day.
