2008 Ducati Superbike 1098, 1098 - RACING SOUL The 1098 immediately stands out for its determined and aggressive stance. Every detail insists that performance is paramount. Traditional Ducati features such as a high set tail section, under-tail exhaust, single-sided swingarm, narrow profile and a rock-solid front end all emphasize the 1098’s aerodynamics and handling capabilities. Add to this a powerful Testastretta Evoluzione engine and you have a Ducati that looks like it's moving even when it's standing still. The 1098 is a milestone both for Ducati and production sportbikes in general. It is the first production bike to feature Brembo monobloc calipers, an onboard data-logging system and new 'smart' technology for the single-sided swingarm. Oval throttle bodies and the new dashboard are innovations direct from Ducati's MotoGP effort and appear on a road-going sportbike for the first time ever with the 1098. Simply put, the 1098 has a racing soul. SATISFYING ALL THE SENSES The throaty roar of the twin under-seat exhausts are synchronized with the howl of the elliptical throttle bodies providing a fitting fanfare for the new 1098 Testastretta Evoluzione engine. Kawasaki‘s Tom Sykes extended his championship lead while a Race Two collision between Aprilia teammates Sylvain Guintoli and Marco Melandri provided drama in the World Superbike Championship round at Portugal’s Portimao track. Sykes qualified on the pole in a sun-draped Superpole session but the clouds rolled in on race day, forcing teams to plan for mixed weather. An overcast sky presided over a dry Race One, leading to a mix of tire choices but all of the racers switched to wet tires for Race Two that saw the scheduled 20-lap length reduced to 18 laps.

2011 AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike Champion Danny Eslick

Danny Eslick won his second career AMA Daytona Sportbike Championship, adding another #1 plate to the one he won in 2009. The Geico Powersports RMR Suzuki GSX-R600 rider won three races this season and added another five podium finishes to win the title by a 275-256 margin over Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Josh Herrin. Eslick clinched the title after finishing sixth in the first race of the 2011 season finale at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Ducati was absent at a recent MotoGP test at the Circuit of the Americas track in Austin, Texas, attended by Honda and Yamaha‘s riders. But that doesn’t mean Ducati‘s American riders Nicky Hayden and Ben Spies won’t get a chance to ride their newest home track. The Kentucky Kid, Hayden, and Texas’ own Spies recently hit the COTA track on the new Ducati 1199 Panigale R for the sportbike’s press launch.
