Massimo Tamburini: 1943 – 2014

Mon, 07 Apr 2014

Massimo Tamburini, creator of some of the industry’s most iconic motorcycle designs, has succumbed to lung cancer at the age of 70. Tamburini was diagnosed with the disease last November and underwent chemotherapy treatment but passed away April 6. Earning renown for designing motorcycles such as the Ducati 916 and the MV Agusta F4, Tamburini’s name will be forever linked with those two companies, as well as Cagiva and helped found Bimota (Tamburini is the “Ta” in the company’s name.)   YOU'RE LOOKING at possibly the last unused Ducati Supermono racer in existence, which is up for sale on eBay right now.  The bike's the 14th Supermono to roll off Ducati's production line and was manufactured in 1995, making this model one of just 25 of the 572cc versions produced.  In its day the Supermono was one of the most desirable bikes around. Weighing just 269lbs and producing in excess of 81hp, the race-ready single is renowned for its surprising turn of speed and pin-sharp cornering ability. The starting price?

WSBK 2012: Assen Results

Mon, 23 Apr 2012

The Netherlands hosted a dramatic weekend of World Superbike racing that featured a red-flagged wet race, several riders crashing while leading, a first-time race winner, a photo finish between two teammates and the reigning World Champion finishing out of the points because of a poor choice of tires. The 2011 WSBK Champion Carlos Checa arrived at Assen with the lead in the championship and a three-race winning streak, but opting to run wet tires in Race Two cost him the lead and may have contributed to a crash that severely injured Liberty Racing‘s Brett McCormick.
