Ducati 996r - 1,781 Miles - 135hp - (1 Of 500) Worldwide (1 Of 100) In Usa on 2040-motos
Ducati Superbike tech info
Ducati Superbike description
The big deal about the 996R was the first ever use of the testastretta (narrow head) engine which went on to power the 998 and the 999 series after it. The narrower, 25ยบ included valve angle finally freed the combustion chamber from what was still essentially the 851 based Desmo quattro engine. The bike is essentially a 996SPS rolling chassis with the new engine, the 996R was the homoligation model that allowed the engines use in racing for Ducati. There were some changes such as upgraded brakes and the removal of the side fairing vent for aerodynamic reasons. PLEASE READ PRIOR TO BIDDING

MOTOR - The 996R's peak output in homologated guise is a claimed 135ps at 10,200rpm at the crankshaft - 13ps more at 200rpm less than the 996SPS.
FRAME - To create the 996R, Ducati focused most attention on the new engine, and slotted it into the same tubular-steel spaceframe as the SPS - itself derived from Foggy's racebike. The major chassis change is the adoption of 2mm-thicker 12mm engine mounts, to create a stiffer engine/chassis package.
BRAKES - The
racing discs are 320mm stainless-steel, but with the bite and feel of
the old cast-iron rotors. There's a 400g weight saving per disc (so,
0.8kg in all) delivered by the 0.5mm thinner rotors used on the 996R
compared to the SPS, and the reduced number of floating fasteners
holding them to the Ergal aircraft alloy flanges. Top stuff.
BODYWORK - Carbon-fibre bodywork (rather than the injection-moulded plastic of the base model) helps contribute to a notable weight reduction, plus there's a claimed 5kmh improvement in top speed due solely to better aerodynamics.
I love this bike and will miss it if someone makes an offer I cannot refuse. It took me many years to track down a 996R and was lucky enough to find one with low mileage. It came from a collector who had many bikes and (lucky for me) mostly road his water-cooled Monster. There is a tiny chip on the tank near the key a 1/8" in diameter and a few light scratches upon the side panels, the bike came to me this way and all are very easy for me to overlook. I've ridden it +/- 500 miles and can tell you its ... smiles per mile. The tires are original, so it has been babied under my watch of the past 3 years. The reason for selling, there is something else I am interested to fund.
Serious buyer are invited for viewings in New York City.

2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale S Receives FIM Superstock Homologation
Thu, 01 Mar 2012It was only a matter of time but finally the news is official: the 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale S has been added to the list of homologated motorcycles for the Superstock 1000 Cup The Panigale was noticeably absent from the initial homologation list the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) released a couple of weeks ago. Now, with a month until the 2012 Superstock 1000 Cup starts at Italy’s Imola circuit, the 1199 has been cleared to complete. The delay was merely a formality however, and teams such as Effenbert-Liberty Racing have already begun testing the Ducati 1199 Panigale S in racing trim.
Remus launch slip-on for Ducati Diavel
Thu, 25 Aug 2011Remus have launched their Hypercone slip-on kit for the Ducati Diavel. It's almost 5kg lighter than the stock exhaust and helps the Diavel gain 5bhp over the stock system too. The slip-on reduces what some designers call 'the visual weight' of the stock twin-stacked exhaust.
Ducati Multistrada 1260 will fly up the mountain
Mon, 07 May 2018The Italian crossover will take part in the legendary Pikes Peak race and try to improve KTM's result. Last year, Chris Fillmore and the wicked KTM 1290 Super Duke R set a record in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, completing a 19.99 km course with 156 turns in 9 minutes 49.625 seconds. But back in 2012, the Ducati Multistrada went out of 10 minutes and became the two-wheeled route record holder.
