Massimo Tamburini: 1943 – 2014

Massimo Tamburini, creator of some of the industry’s most iconic motorcycle designs, has succumbed to lung cancer at the age of 70. Tamburini was diagnosed with the disease last November and underwent chemotherapy treatment but passed away April 6. Earning renown for designing motorcycles such as the Ducati 916 and the MV Agusta F4, Tamburini’s name will be forever linked with those two companies, as well as Cagiva and helped found Bimota (Tamburini is the “Ta” in the company’s name.) 2011 Vyrus Moto2 Grand Prix Racer Preview

Motorbike cognoscenti recognize the Vyrus name, the Italian brand producing exotic sportbikes based on the amazing hub-center-steered Bimota Tesi. The Vyrus story begins when Bimota filed for bankruptcy in the early 2000s. Vyrus principal Ascanio Rodorigo, a former Bimota employee, began producing his version of the Tesi after Bimota let its patents expire while it was in bankruptcy.

Casey Stoner's trick kart

The other day Casey Stoner tweeted this shot of this factory looking kart, which the reigning champion has been customising during the MotoGP downtime between Qatar and Jerez. Stoner became hooked on karting after taking part in the ice-race at the Ducati/Ferrari Vrooom event in 2009, beating F1 driver Felipe Massa in the process. Not only a hobby, Casey uses karting for training, as the Australian says there are physical benefits as well as to his reflexes.
