Ducati Other description

1972 Ducati 250 Road

I bought this low mileage (4608 miles) widecase 250 Mototrans Ducati a while back with the intention of cleaning it up and riding it, but the excessive number of projects that I am currently working on will not allow me to get to this one anytime soon, and I could use the space in the shop, so it needs to go onto it's next owner. The only things I have done are clean the Dellorto VHB27 carburetor, and added the headpipe, exhaust nut, and exhaust crush washer that was missing when I bought it.

This should be an easy project, it has good compression, shifts through the gears and everything feels right, but is not running, so you will need to spend an afternoon or two sorting it out.

General cosmetic condition of this 44 year old bike is very good
Tank is dent free and is solid. some of the original paint has flaked, but looks good from 10 feet. inside the tank is relatively clean, there are some light rust spots inside but nothing major, just needs to be flushed out. tank doesn't need to be lined.
Seat is in nice original shape.
Speedo and tach look good.
There are some light rust in spots on the toolboxes, and fenders.
It looks like the front fender is a repaint, as there is some orange paint peeking through in spots.
The original marzocchi shocks have some light rust on the springs and some of the black paint has flaked on the shock covers.
The akront flanged alloys are nice and straight with no visible cracks or damage. The vintage pirelli phantom tires are in good shape with plenty of tread and show no evidence of dry rot. It is obvious that this bike has not been stored outside .
The headlight trim ring has some dents and has been repainted black. the headlight bucket has some surface scratches in the paint, but no dents.
The original spring style headlight ears are missing, they have been replaced with nice alloy fork ears.
Hand controls and switch gear all appears to work as expected.
There are a couple of cut and taped-up wires that need to be fixed or you can buy a new replacement complete wiring harness for $40-50

I know the bike needs these things:
battery.
speedometer cable and VDO sending unit.
fuel line
muffler/silencer.
front brake cable and throttle cable.
footpeg rubbers and shifter rubber.
horn.

Ask questions, or call me I can take more pictures or describe condition, etc.

This bike has a clear Michigan title.

I can hold on to the bike for 3 weeks after the end of the auction. I can help load it for your shipper or you can pick it up here.

$500 non-refundable deposit due within 48 hrs of auction close. Full payment due within 2 weeks.
Please don't bid on this bike if you can not pay for it. Thanks!

I will sell this bike worldwide, but you are responsible for all details after the initial pickup. I am not an international motorcycle broker.

Wed, 14 Feb 2024

Watch out KTM – Ducati’s coming for you Photo: Alex Photo KTM, consider yourself on watch because Ducati is coming for you, and it’s coming for you with this: the 2024 Hypermotard 698 Mono. One look and you can tell the Hyper Mono is aimed squarely at the KTM 690 SMC R, the supermoto inspiration is obvious to all, and now there’s suddenly an arms race in a category that’s been one-sided for years. Sure, the street-legal supermoto scene may be a small niche, but we all know it’s a recipe for getting your license taken away in no time – all with a giant smile on your face.
