The 91st running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is in the books, and while much of the media attention focused on Sebastien Loeb demolishing the outright course record, setting the first eight-minute lap with a 8:13.878 — over 90 seconds faster than the previous lap record —in his Peugeot 208 T16, history was made in the motorcycle divisions as well. Results From Day 2 Of World Superbike Testing At Phillip Island

World Superbike testing at Phillip Island came to a close today, and when the dust settled, reigning champion Tom Sykes stamped his authority, setting the fastest time of the test at 1:30.239, just five thousandths shy of the outright lap record held by Carlos Checa. The time was set during the morning session of testing, though nobody was able to best Sykes for the remainder of the day. Eugene Laverty, who was fastest on day one, showed his pace was no fluke as he stayed near the top of the time sheets, ultimately finishing second behind Sykes, with a best time of 1:30.513.

2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale Enters Production

The much anticipated 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale has entered serial production, with the Italian manufacturer celebrating the first unit to roll off the assembly line. Staff gathered around to mark the beginning of production for Ducati‘s latest sportbike. Ducati President and Chief Excutive Officer Gabriele Del Torchio was joined by General Director Claudio Domenicali to watch as Plant Director Silvano Fini celebrated the first Panigale by showering it with sparkling wine.
