Let's face it. When It comes to Japanese touring motorcycles, The Honda Gold Wing is the benchmark. I think most people have accepted that. But in the 80's and 90's, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha refused to accept it. In fact, they wanted to knock the GW off its perch. The other three of the big four wanted their share of the then somewhat new luxury touring motorcycle market. Suzuki came out with the Cavalcade, Yamaha with the Venture and Kawasaki with the Voyager. In their efforts to dethrone the 'Wing they threw everything they could at these bikes. Using every bit of state of the art technology and performance it was a war to try and win market share. Did they? Not really, the Wings had such a solid market share, and basically still do to this day.

That brings us to this bike.

The first generation Voyagers were 6 cylinders but the motorcycle reviews of the days basically said it was just too wide for a touring bike. Plus they had a weird carb set up and were just a bit too exotic for a long distance touring machine. Kawasaki went back to the drawing board and came out with a 4cyl very similar to the 6 but with a more traditional carb set up and improved torque curve.  Power output was similar to the 6, but the engine was considerably lighter. There is a community for vintage Japanese touring bikes because people want to get out and do touring but dont want to spend $25k or more on a Gold Wing. These machines are a testament to Japanese design and reliability!

I have ridden Gold Wings, Ventures and currently have a Cavalcade but the Voyager is my favorite. It's the smoothest running and shifting and It just rides awesome! Most bikes from the genre have 30-50k miles or more, not this gem, only 5400 miles! Everything works including the cruise control and self canceling turn signals.

Bikes starts, runs and rides perfectly. Has the optional driving lights and very hard to find driver backrest. When we were changing the tires and had the bags off, we thouroughly detailed it. Usually when you take the bags off these bikes it's a mess behind them. Not this bike.

Front and rear air suspension holds air.
