1978 Honda Trail 70.

600 original miles, 3 - speed, automatic. This is the little bike that introduced hundreds of thousands  of  American kids and adults to the sport of motorcycling. It runs great, is in excellent condition, and is a number’s matching bike.  2701190 is the engine #, the frame # is 2701197.

I have always had a soft spot for Honda’s iconic CT70 and purchased this a while back to add to my collection. This is a bit of a rarer model, as annual production of these awesome little bikes dropped as the years went on, and It is  the only year Honda made their flagship mini bike available in black. It also is the last year of the "Fold-down handlebars" and chrome fenders.

I did a complete cosmetic restoration on this Trail 70 when I first bought it including stripping it completely and repainting the frame, engine, wheels, as well as adding new decals. All nuts and bolts were cleaned, polished, or replaced. It was redone to be a super nice rider, not a show bike, but shows very well and would hold its own in any collection. The frame is straight, no dents, the original seat, fork boots and hand grips are in excellent condition for the year. Some of the chrome does show some very light patina but way above average for the year. The front fender does have a small dent.

I also performed a  complete maintenance service, oil change, new plug, carburetor clean and tune, new battery, new air filter, adjusted  and cleaned points, set timing and  adjusted the valves.

It starts easily, gas tank is clean, no smoke or unusual noises, idles, runs, shifts, and stops as it should. The horn and all lights are intact and functional, with the exception of the blinkers which I never looked into.  Other than the paint it is pretty much an unmolested, original Trail 70 with 600 original miles.  It even still has the original Bridgestone Trail Wing tires in very good condition.

These collectible little bikes are virtually bulletproof and have stood the test of time with their quirky good looks and Honda’s legendary reliability. I could use the space and the cash to start some of the other vintage bike projects I have, so it’s time for someone else to enjoy it for the next 45 years. You would be hard pressed to find a lower mileage CT70.
