After 20 years and thousands of trouble free miles, I'm selling the ST1100 I built from somebody's off-road excusion near Monument Oregon in the late '90s. The bike was totalled at approx 1400 miles because the fairing, instrument pod, front forks, wheels and brakes were all damaged, but I (a motorcycle mechanic of 40 years experience including several complete restorations) saw the wreck as the starting point of the fairing-less ST1100 that I thought would make the perfect sport tourer, and I was right, putting nearly 50,000 trouble free miles on the bike over the years -- and the bike was featured in mid-2000s article in Cycle World about people who build their own rather than buying off the rack....

The engine and trans were fine - no surprise there, STs routinely cover more than 100K miles - the frame and swing arm were professionally straightened and aligned -- handling is fine and there's no weird tire wear. I sourced a set of VFR 1000R endurance race forks in stock ST clamps, fitted cartidge emulators and Progressive fork springs, a 17" suzuki wheel with EBC rotors, 4-pot Nissin calipers and a Givi fairing.

My talented metalworker friend helped me fab a stainless steel fork brace, headlight ears and the instrument panel with VDO street rod gauges. The headlight is a stainless steel 9 1/2" inch unit from a 1933 ford and it has an uprated reflector and H-4 bulb. I bought good used side covers and a tank cover and they were painted bright yellow by the late great Ron Grelck, one of the best in the business and the paint is still in good condition. Also: K&N air filter and White Power remote reservoir rear shock. Carburetors are the stock rack of 32s and the exhaust system is stock but has been ceramic coated and capped with Bub Norton Commando reverse taper meggas, which sound great...

The seat is rebuilt and super comfortable and the bike has been an absolute joy, loping along at 4000 rpm at 72 MPH in top gear and returning a consistent 43-45 MPG. And now, damn the luck, I'm just not riding long trips anymore, which is where this bike shines, so it's time to move it along.
Selling with manuals, a small selection of spares, stock hard bags with liners and a Fox tank bag. Recent work includes a new cam drive belt (the old one was pristine) valve adjust and carb sync, and the bike is ready to ride, though registration and insurance have lapsed.
