Summary:
This is a No Reserve auction is for a 1983 Honda VT750C Shadow Project Bike with 29,840 Miles. This is a 1983 Honda V-Twin shaft drive motorcycle, and has a clean, clear Maryland Title in my name.
*** Final Update: This bike will not be re-listed. ***
*** It needs very little to make it worth twice what I am listing it for. ***
*** Swap out some larger jets in the carbs and Fuel Lines ***
*** I would do those myself but I have too many other project bikes right now... ***
This model has a low seat, electric start, shaft drive and makes a great first bike!
As part of the restoration and rebuild on this motorcycle I worked on the hydraulic front brake, hydraulic clutch, carburetors, seat, fork seals and electrics.
Please note: I have had the bike running, it idles at around 1.500 rpm but needs different jets for the exhaust that is fitted - when I rebuilt the carburetors I installed standard size jets for the stock exhaust/mufflers.
I'm listing some of the key points below (the Good, and the Bad...). I will try to add a link to additional photo's when I can..
The Good:
- The Carbs have been removed, stripped down, cleaned in an ultrasonic tank and have all new jets.
- The Main Primary jets have been replaced, the correct sizes are #140 and #40 Slow Jet (more photo's available on request, or will be posted later).
- A new Battery has been installed.
- The Ignition Coils have been replaced (aftermarket, but with the same specification, just newer).
- All 4 spark plugs have been replaced.
- The Starter Solenoid has ben replaced.
- Engine Oil has been drained and replaced.
- A new Oil Filter installed.
- A new Air Filter has been installed.
- The bike has a shaft drive, the Transmission Oil has been drained and replaced.
- The cooling system (Radiator and Reserve tank) have been drained and flushed (the bike is water cooled)..
- Front and Rear Turn signals replaced with appropriate aftermarket matching replicas.
- All lights work (headlight High & Low beams), brake light, and turn signals).
- The Horn works
- Fork seals and Dust Covers have been replaced.
- New Fork oil is installed and pressurized..
- A compression test was good for each cylinder.
- The front and rear seat covers has been replaced with aftermarket padded seat cover.
- The alloy wheel rims are clean and show no dents, ridges or corrosion.
- The same key for this bike can be used for the Ignition, the Gas Tank cap, the Helmet holder and the Small box on the back of the passenger seat(shown in the photo's.
- The Fuel Pump works, and a new spare one that I did not use/need is included with the sale.
- A clear Maryland title in my name comes with the bike. The buyer will need to take that and either a Bill of Sale or the eBay receipt in order to register the bike.
- An original Owners Manual comes with the Bike.
The Bad:
- The bike will start and run well at Idle, but does not run above 1,500 rpm.
- As the bike has not been running, the bike has not had a "Road Test".
- The Hydraulic Clutch has new fluid and parts, but has not been tested.
- The Jets in the carbs are the likely cause of this bike only running at an "idle" speed of ~1,500rpm. This bike has a somewhat loud aftermarket exhaust installed, not the original.
- The Carbs will probably need to be balanced too.
- The Tires are old, and will need to be replaced.
- The handlebar grips are missing on the the left and right of the bar..
- The Gas Tank has 2 small dents that are visible when the tank is lifted off or removed.
- The Gas Tank does not have a "Petcock" to turn fuel on and off. This model bike has a fuel pump which can be set to either the Run, or Off position. Previously I had this listed saying it needed a new Petcock, which is not the case.
- However, the Fuel Pump is connected to an In-Line Fuel Filter, and that should probably be replaced.
- The Gas Tank is connected to the "Reserve" fuel tank by a 4" Fuel Line, and that needs to be installed or replaced.
- Some of the alloy is showing its age and is corroded or discolored.
- Parts of the frame are rusty, but this is all surface rust and could be touched up. The frame is solid,
The bike has been a long running Project that I have had for a while, I'm looking to sell this because I have too many other projects to work on. I started this before the Winter, and have spent the past few months restoring and/or repairing it.
I have spent way too much time and money on this bike, my loss is your gain. This does not need a lot of work on it, just some time and patience that I no longer have. But as I stated above - I will NOT be relisting this auction if the bike does not sell at this price. I will fix the carburetor jets and then re-list at a higher price.
NOTE: After my recent experiences trying to sell motorcycles on eBay - Bidders with no feedback need to contact me or they might be deleted.
Please bear in mind that this is a 41 year old motorcycle!! It is being sold in an "As-Is, Where Is" condition... In the spirit of full disclosure I have listed all that I've done to that I know about it.
