MODEL 2000 HARLEY DAVIDSON MT500 MILITARY MOTORCYCLE
In 1986, Harley bought the rights to build the MT-500 from Armstrong, a British motorcycle manufacturer. The MT-500, and its sibling the MT-350, are the standard issue bikes used by the British army. Harley bought the rights with the apparent intent of going back into business of supplying the US Army with motorcycles as it had in WWI and WWII Harley Davidson produced 355 U.S. model MT 500’s in 1999 and only 115 U.S. model MT 500’s in 2000. These bikes sold for $10,000 or $11,500 off the showroom floor with only one available option, Panniers and a Gun case scabbard. The dealers had the option of selling the bikes; some were raffled (by dealers) for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, but most of them went to Museums or collectors.
