1975 Ducati 860GT Bevel Head

Up for auction is one of my favorite projects...  a frame-off restoration done in 1998.   Since then, I’ve used it sparingly, only putting about 1500 miles on the rebuild.   While off the road, it’s been stored in my air-conditioned garage.  It’s become a bit of a garage queen, and I need the space for another resto, so it’s up for bids.   The bike is running, however I’d recommend the new owner spend some time tuning the carbs which I’ve not done since the recent carb refresh.   The bike has a clear North Carolina title.

Details of the work:

Engine:

Crankshaft / rod assembly rebuilt by Syd’s Ducati, St Petersburg Fla.
New bearings... crankcase, transmission and heads, shimmed to spec.
Kept original pistons, rings and valves.. all in good condition.
Carbs were rebuilt about a month ago, and there’s fresh gas in tank.

Drive-line:
New o-ring chain. Original swing arm bearings will likely need replacement.
 -  I have included a new shaft and bearings in the parts box.
Original drive and rear sprockets.

Wheels :
New alloy rims (Takasago Elite) and spokes (Buchanan’s)
New wheel bearings and seals
Tires and inner tubes have 1500 miles on them, but are dry and I suggest replacement.

Brakes:
Original rear drum
New front  Brembo caliper and pads, both replaced this year.

Frame and metal parts:
Frame and swing arm powder coated
2-part acrylic epoxy paint ('92 Dodge Viper Red) on tank and fenders

Cables, controls:
All cables and controls replaced. The awful Italian clutch and throttle controls have been updated with Japanese items. The choke control is now in easy reach on the left bar.
Electrical wiring has also been cleaned up, with the old glass fuses replaced with modern plug-in style.   Original magneto ignition has been retained, and works fine.

You’ll see in the pictures I’ve included a parts box with an assortment of bits.. gaskets, chain parts, etc.

The bike is on auction to the highest bidder.  No reserve and no buy-it-now.

Winning bidder is responsible for pick up.
