2000 HONDA XR 100

When you live in the California desert, one thing is almost for certain, that you will own an off-road vehicle of some sort for recreational purposes. As we are a family of five we also own dirt bikes and quads, and with kids growing up in the desert you go through many stages with different size bikes, until they grow older and responsible enough to be equipped with the next size up.

So it does happen from time to time, that a certain bike falls down from under, as the kid has grown out of it. In this case we are looking to sell our 2000 HONDA XR100, just in time for the start of the dirt bike season down here in Southern California.

These small 4 stroke HONDA XR models are an excellent next step bike for any beginner, that has already learned to shift, but is not yet familiar with the concept of a clutch.
My kids had always started out with a fully automatic PW50, before we led them to learn the gearshift without a clutch on an automatic 3-speed PW80. Once they knew the routine it was time to get them onto a clutch shifted bike, like a HONDA XR80 or the XR100 offered in this listing.

Despite the fact that Chinese production bikes start to pop up left and right at dumping prices on the market, the quality of the little HONDA engines is still unsurpassed, and reliable service for years is virtually guaranteed, provided you take proper care of your equipment, as we certainly have over the years.
Reliability is not necessarily something you can boast about on some of these Chinese imports, that seem to have been designed for a couple weekends of fun, before inferior internal components turn to dust, making those offroad motorcycles virtually a throwaway item.

Not so on a bullet proof HONDA engine. Even after 7 years the starts reliably every time, simply by kicking the lever on the RH side of the engine. The choke on the carburetor set to the appropriate setting according to engine temperature, and it starts after only a couple of kicks.

Once the engine runs all you need to do is pull the clutch, engage the gear with the foot lever on the left hand side of the bike, and off you go!
The bike is equipped with quite a torquey engine, which assures that your kid won't get bored with it too soon.

The motorcycle has 5 gears (1 down - 4 up), just like most big bikes, which will teach your child the full concept of offroad riding and motorcycle riding in general for years to come. And once the time has come to move on to something bigger you can be sure that you will still get fair money back for a HONDA motorcycle, due to excellent resale values based on their reputation.

Unlike a 2-stroke engine design, which is operated with a gasoline/oil mixture, the engine in this little critter is a four stroke that runs on regular gas, so you do not have to premix any gas before use. Very convenient indeed!

Just make sure you have enough regular motor oil in the engine, and this together with a free flowing air filter is about all you need to check or worry about to guarantee troublefree operation.

While our HONDA for sale obviously had seen some use during its years of operation, it still was kept in good shape, as you can see by the numerous pictures.

In addition to regular airfilter cleaning and periodic oil changes it did not require much mentionable attention, thanks to the simple air cooled design. -- If you were looking for a kids bike that is low maintenance, this is the definitely the one to get! --

My 12 year old daughter has ridden the XR for the last 3 years, mainly during the winter months, as the sun spoils riding in the desert during the summer month with temperature beyond the 100°F mark, when we kept it garaged for the begin of the next (winter) season. Therefore overall use was somewhat limited, also explaining why is still in such good condition.

Even though she has grown quite fond of the little bike, interest has shifted, and she now feels more comfortable with just one horsepower, that comes on four legs. As we have no one else in the family to follow into her foot steps we decided that it is time for the bike to go, rather than have it sit in the garage for years to come.

While I be happy to sell and send the motorcycle to the most remote corner of the world, additional charges for crating, delivery to a freight forwarder and/or shipping charges are the final high bidders responsibility in addition to the purchase price. The HONDA is properly titled in the State of California with a Certificate of Title and is currently on an official non-operational status with the DMV as an Offroad Vehicle in this state.

Payment is accepted in US funds only, and will be expected to be received within 7 days after the listing ended by means of cash in hand at time of pick up, which should be done within a 7 day time frame. As the bike has also been advertised locally, I reserve the right to end the listing at any time, should a new owner have been found through that advertising venue.
