2001 Honda 750 Shadow Custom Hard-Tail Bobber

We have recently put the finishing touches on this one-off custom build, a 2001 Honda 750 Shadow hard-tail bobber.  As one can see from the photos, she turned out to be a cool ride - her motor runs beautifully and is super tight with not a drop of oil leaking from her!

Like many of the bikes we find and transform, she was buried in a garage and on her way to sitting under a pile of garage stuff for the next couple of years … or decades.  We happily rescued her from that potential fate and got to work on transforming her in to the ride you now see and could own!  She fires right up, idles/runs beautifully, revs and pulls hard through the entire RPM range and through all 5 gears without any clutch slippage or break-up.  The seat height is now only 25 inches, so most folks will be able to sit on her and touch flat footed – including most women (see pic of Joe sitting on the bike – he’s a short guy at around 5’-4” and he is flat footed with a bend in his knees).  Because of the low seat height (lower overall center of gravity) and the fact that we chopped lots of weight off her, she feels light and nimble with an incredibly comfortable and safe riding position!  She just goes down the road so nicely and smoothly – tough to tell you are riding a hard-tail as she absorbs the bumps really well and does not beat you up!  This bike would be a great daily commuter!

As you can see from the photos (more build photos on our website … including a couple YouTube videos of her running and going down the road), she was fully disassembled to the frame - every part on this bike has been cleaned, repainted and/or refreshed. We have included a quick list of the work done to her (all work done in-house):

• custom fabricated rear hard-tail section with DOM 1¼” tubing (welds are nicer than factory … we know, not too tough to do but, Jim has been a master welder/fabricator for 25+ years) – she’ll even hold-up to you big dudes hitting large bumps or cruising through those big-humped intersections – she actually looks like she came from the factory with a hard-tail as the work is well integrated (see close-up pics)
• custom fabricated 1¾” exhaust system (thanks to raw exhaust piping from our friends at BiltWell) with titanium header wrap and small baffles to quiet her a bit
• new 2 yr warranty battery sitting in a custom fabricated battery tray
• new front/rear Shinko 777 tires (excellent reviews/ratings)
• new RK heavy duty chain
• front caliper & master cylinder have been rebuilt with new seal kits and new sintered pads
• new Ultima leather wrapped solo seat & springs
• gas tank slightly reshaped in the rear for rounder/integrated look
• new Biltwell chrome molly seat post
• new Biltwell Kung Fu Grips (super soft with a great feel)
• custom fabricated air intake with new K&N Filter
• new rear fender made with heavy duty 14 gauge steel w/very strong mounts
• new brushed aluminum Sparto tail light & LED strip for license plate
• new shorty 2-filament bullet/chrome turn signals (all turn on with key and stay on for added safety but still funstion as turn-signals)
• new mirrors with steel stem & plastic housings from our friends at Kapsco Moto (no rust … especially here on the Florida coast where chrome/steel mirrors will not hold-up against the salt in the air) with a slight convex reflection
• chopped front fender
• tins, frame, triple trees, headlight, lower forks painted with 2-part PPG urethane primer & PPG paint (Kona Coffee: in the shade, she looks almost black but in the sun, she really pops with the fine red/blue/gold metal flake).  PPG Epoxy direct to metal primer used first on all bare metal
• engine painted with a 2-part urethane satin black heat paint (rated to 650°F)
• flat black graphics are vinyl stickers on top of the paint and can be removed for more personal touches/graphics
• all new fluids (oil/anti-freeze) along with new chrome oil filter and new NGK plugs
• rebuilt petcock with new o-ring, replaced the in-tank petcock fuel screen, new glass fuel filter
• re-jetted carbs (115/120 mains with 42 pilot jets and two shims on the slide needle … stock: 105/108 mains and 40 pilot jet), including new float bowl gaskets
• The Bad:  there is a small ding around 11 o’clock on the speedometer ring … the previous owner dropped something on it by accident in the garage L (see pic)
