No reserve auction on this 1965 BSA Hornet, the auction starts at only $1. There is a title for this motorcycle. It is a real 1965 Hornet. This one came from the factory with a close ration gearbox. The close ratio gearbox is indicated by the “c” after the model code A65E. The motor and frame numbers did not match on 65 Hornets. This bike is titled to the frame number A50B8085, which also indicates 1965 as the year of manufacture. FRAME: A50B 8085 Motor: A65EC 1475 The motor turns over, but the bike is not in running condition. We took the plugs out, put it in gear, and pushed it to make sure the pistons go up and down. Something is broken in the kick starter mechanism and/or gearbox that prevents the kick start pedal from operating. We have no taken anything apart, nor inspected this problem any further. It is apparent that this BSA has been parked for a long time. It needs a full on restoration and motor rebuild. The gearbox does shift through the gears. This bike has the correct fiberglass fuel tank. The tank does not have any cracks or structural damage. It is missing one sidecover, and some other stuff. Not a complete package, but a good start for a restoration. I am pretty sure the headlight and headlight mount are Bates items. The other pipe, side cover, and box of misc will ship with this bike. Please be sure to study the photographs carefully. I noticed the rear fender stay had been modified, and the rear brake stay was incorrect. It is possible that there are other parts that are incorrect or modified that I did not notice. I do not know if the indicated mileage is correct; I suspect not. The Fonz Never Really Rode a Motorcycle!
Tue, 02 Jun 2009According to the “King of Cool” himself, “The Fonz” (Henry Winkler) never actually rode any motorcycles during the ten year Happy Days television run. Winkler, never rode a bike in real life either, he has dyslexia, which made it difficult for him to co-ordinate the clutch, throttle and brake. Instead, the bikes (Harley Davidsons, Triumphs, BSAs were used) were mounted on a piece of wood with wheels to make it look like he was riding, even though I am not shocked, I am a little disappointed… You can watch the interview with Winkler, the famous motorcycle jump “The Fonz” made over 14 trashcans and a bonus “Jump the Shark” video after the jump.
