1968 Bsa A50rs Royal Star - 500 on 2040-motos

I bought this nice little BSA back in 1994, road it for a while and then moved it to the basement where it has stood ever since. I had grand  plans of pulling it apart and reversing the groovy custom work that some previous owner had performed  but there always seemed to be some other project that fought its way to the top of the list leaving the Royal Star to languish in the corner. The basement is heated and de-humidified so it wasn’t that bad. The bike has moved about 50 feet in those two decades, all of them last Sunday when it came out to see the light of day.

It was a good running bike back then and the only objection I had to it was its tendency to wet-sump on a regular basis.  At this point with a new battery, a good carb cleaning and a little attention to the oil line check valve and it should be ready to ride. After that, bringing the machine out of the seventies, will require a little more work. Overall, it is a nice bike and should be a fairly easy restoration (if you want to go that direction.) There are a couple of dents in the tank and a scratch across its top. The front wheel is pretty nice while the rear has some rust on the rim. When the seat was recovered they removed most of the bump – my favorite part of the BSA’s of this era. The triple trees and fork sliders have been chrome plated and the mufflers have been replaced with the shorties that were so popular 40 years ago.

This is a matching number machine and I have a good Washington state title in my name.
