BMW R-Series description
My wife is in the Screen Actors Guild and works in movies, so the "Milk" production people knew about this bike and rented it for use in the movie. It's the bike in the movie (sequence beginning at about 118 minutes into it) that James Franco uses to pick up Sean Penn (playing the role of Harvey Milk) at the camera shop and take him to the nighttime rally at San Francisco City Hall, where Penn (as shown in image sequence) hops off and goes to make his speech. I have written documentation of its use in the movie. Titled as a 1967 BMW R60/2, it has been upgraded with an 800cc engine that's a composite of 1970 R75/5 lower end with a 1987 R80 top end, Mikuni carburetors, 1974 5-speed transmission with kickstart, and 1970s rear drive, while maintaining the essential appearance of a 1955-'69 BMW. The conversion was done (by me, with help from a top-notch expert machinist) to make it easy for my wife to ride. Toward that end it has an electric starter and an Easy Clutch (from Bench Mark Works) to reduce lever effort. The engine has an 8.2/1 compression ratio for easy starting, reliability and docile manners. Since it's a unique model, I had an "R89S" emblem fabricated for the rear fender to give it a name. It's essentially 1987 R80-spec, stock everything except Mikuni carbs and a lightened flywheel. It's a very easy bike to ride; very smooth, comfortable and quiet. Earles-fork BMWs were regarded as the Rolls-Royce of motorcycles in their day, which reputation was justly deserved. This is a very nice motorcycle, well worth the starting bid even if it hadn't been in an Academy-Award-winning movie. I built it with tender loving care for my wife to ride, but it's now worth too much to keep. I'll build her another bike to take its place if this one sells. She didn't have a chance to ride this one very much, and it has been maintained meticulously. I can deliver this on a trailer to anywhere in the lower 48 states by special arrangement if the buyer agrees to pay for my gas round-trip from the San Francisco Bay Area. Pulling a trailer with a BMW motorcycle on it, my car gets 18 mpg, so use that figure for calculating the delivery cost. Other shipping can be negotiated if the winning bidder prefers. The bike weighs approximately 500 pounds. More specifications are available on request, so feel free to ask whatever questions you have about the bike.

Spy Video Provides Up-Close Look at 2014 BMW R1200RT/R1200GT
Wed, 17 Apr 2013Last month, we published spy photos of what appeared to be some prototypes of the 2014 BMW R1200RT sport-tourer undergoing testing somewhere in southern France. Unfortunately, the photographs were captured from far away, preventing us from seeing many details apart from the new water-cooled Boxer engine from the new GS and what appears to be the adaptive headlight from the K1600GT and GTL. Thankfully, a new video has surfaced, providing an up-close look at the new R1200RT.
