    BACKSTORY I have here one R75/5 SWB classic with matching engine, frame, and badge numbers; it has a model year of 1973 and a build date of 1/1972, so the wiring is fuseless and most of the parts are stamped 1971. I got it as a basket case in the Spring and spent an unreasonable amount of time this Summer reviving and refinishing various components and making a few reversible (non-destructive) modifications. PO replaced the head & base gaskets, pushrod tube seals, etc., got it fired up then lost interest.  REVIVAL (I would not call it a "restoration") I stripped & painted the frame and swingarm (spray lacquer; 3 coats black, 3 coats clear) and polished most of the engine casings. All the knurled BMW casing bolts looked great, but much of the other original hardware (hardened nuts & bolts, bushings, motor mounts, brake linkage, seat latch, steering damper, etc.) had a "lovely patina" (ahem), so I de-plated and re-plated all (zinc; 2 to 4 strikes).

     1974 BMW R90/6 with Dneper sidecar -  Recently tuned and replaced alternator rotor and battery.  Customer is getting on in years and just doesn't ride enough to keep it.  This is a very nice older rig we built about 10 years ago.  The odometer doesn't work, but we have kept track of the mileage.  It is approximately 54,000.  Oil has been changed regularly and tune ups about every 1 1/2 years.  The triple trees have been upgraded to Perry's sidecar triple tree.  It has a steering dampner from bike to sidecar. This rig is ready to go just about anywhere.  If you are local, or you want to fly in from out of State and have not driven a sidecar rig before, we will give you sidecar lessons.  Very rarely see a BMW rig in this price range.     This motorcycle needs to used.  I have owned it 1988.  It came from “Cue” at House of Triumph in Elmsford NY with 68,000 miles on the clock..  It has always been my second bike, lightly used and garaged.  Weekend  rides have added about 6000 miles.  It now shows just over 74,000 miles.  In the fall of 2011 it underwent substantial mechanical restoration at Max BMW (Brookfield Ct)  which included rebuilding carburetors, draining and cleaning fuel tank, new brake pads and rotors at the front and new brake shoes at the rear,  new center stand, air filters, new throttle and choke cables,  new horns, new fluids (fork, brakes,  new top-end seals.  Total investment was $5100.  It has a fork brace, café faring, original grips, lots of tread on Metzler tires.  “Easy Clutch” is installed. BMW HP4 Gets New ABS that Works in Corners

BMW has developed a new anti-lock braking system designed to work when a motorcycle is leaned over into a corner. The new ABS Pro system will initially be offered as a retrofit upgrade on the BMW HP4 sportbike, but it’s likely only a matter of time before the technology becomes available on other models. The ABS Pro uses the same sensors already employed by BMW’s Dynamic Traction Control and Dynamic Damping Control electronic suspension, both of which are already available on the HP4.

Brough Superior to Make Moto2 Debut at Silverstone

The Taylormade Brough Superior racebike will make its Moto2 racing debut at the British Grand Prix at the U.K.’s Silverstone circuit. Backed by insurance company Bennetts, the one-off entry will feature British Supersport racer Luke Mossey riding the Taylormade Carbon 2 racebike. Led by California-based but British-bred Paul Taylor and John Keogh, the Taylormade project was started to rethink the spark the impending relaunch of the Brough Superior brand as well as to explore new ways of designing prototype race machines.

Marco Melandri rebounded from last week’s disappointing Portimao round to win Race One at Laguna Seca while Tom Sykes extended his championship lead with a win in a red-flagged Race Two. Melandri got taken out of the second Portimao race after his Aprilia teammate Sylvain Guintoli slid into his RSV4. Melandri looked eager to make up for that DNF, leading every lap of Race One on his way to his third win of the season.

BMW is updating its big six-cylinder touring bikes with traction control as standard equipment and a number of new optional add-ons including keyless remote ignition. Previously available as part of BMW’s factory-installed Safety Package option, the Dynamic Traction Control system will now be standard on all 2015 K1600GT and K1600GTL models. The system continuously monitors rear wheel traction during acceleration, stepping in when it senses excessive wheel spin.

BMW announced a new special edition version of the K1300S equipped with some upgraded parts and a unique paint job. The 2015 BMW K1300S Motorsport comes with a new Black Storm Metallic, Light White and Lupine Blue Metallic color scheme, with a bit of red striping for good measure. A band of black running across the top of the bike from nose to tank to tail is complemented by a tinted windscreen.

2014 BMW R1200RT Officially Recalled in US

BMW has officially recalled the 2014 R1200RT in the U.S., after the company released a worldwide warning to customers about a potential defect with the rear suspension system. According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the piston rod on the R1200RT’s Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) rear shock absorber may break without warning. The problem was first discovered April 1 after a warranty claim was filed in France.

BMW Warns of Potential Defect in 2014 R1200RT Suspension

BMW is issuing a warning to owners of the 2014 R1200RT with the Dynamic ESA option about a potential defect with the rear suspension. No formal recall has been announced at the moment; BMW is calling it a precautionary measure, though that may change in time or depending on the market. According to BMW, the piston rod of the rear spring strut could break.
