BMW R-Series description

For sale is my low mileage, well equipped 2011 R1200GS.  It is one of the Special Edition triple black models which includes a sapphire black body color, black cross spoke wheels, asphalt grey metallic swing arm, rear frame and valve covers and black front forks and engine.  The Special Edition includes the Premium Package equipment - Enduro ESA (electronic suspension adjustment), ABS, heated grips, on-board computer, hand protection and saddle bag mounts. It's a great looking bike.

Seasoned riders know that while the GS provides an excellent starting point it needs a few goodies to be well equipped. I've stayed with high quality after market suppliers to make this bike highly functional and practical. No bling here.

Add-ons include:

AltRider crash bars
AltRider skid plate
Pivot Pegs (MK3 wide)
Rox pivoting 2" handlebar riser
Kaoko cruise control
Garmin ZUMO 550 GPS with hard wired mount and a Centech fuse panel
Battery Tender charger with a direct battery connector
Touratech large side stand foot
Touratech pannier top bags
Touratech Kahedo low seat
BMW vario panniers
BMW Motorrad large tank bag
BMW Motorrad large softbag tail case
Wilbers WESA front and rear suspension (see below)

The add-ons cost $5,800.

I've been riding motorcycles for 52 years so I know what I want and how I ride.  I'm also "vertically challenged" so over the years I've done many variations on seat and/or suspension tweaks.  On a tall bike like the GS I didn't want to be paddling around on the soles of my feet.  The standard GS suspension is just OK so I went with a custom Wilbers setup. I encourage you to check out their reviews.

I was able to drop the suspension 65 mm (about 2.5 in) while improving the ride and maintaining complete ESA functionality.  In the real world this means any rider with about a 30" inseam or less (down to about 27") can flat foot this bike through seat/suspension adjustments.  The bike still has plenty of ground clearance.  Even an expert, aggressive rider would have difficulty dragging the pegs.  I am also including the original BMW shocks/springs and seats.

I'm in my sixties now and have realized I just don't ride like I used to.  The bike is in outstanding condition mechanically and cosmetically.  No accidents or drops.  The only mark is a minor scuff on the left side pannier cover from a klutzy parking move.

I'm located about 30 miles from Knoxville, TN and will do anything reasonable to help with delivery.  Inspections are welcome.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

Q3 2013 US Motorcycle Sales Results

Fri, 01 Nov 2013

Motorcycle and scooter sales in the U.S. in 2013 remain consistent with last year’s figures, according to data released by the Motorcycle Industry Council. Several manufacturers blamed poor weather for the poor start this year, and the rebounding sales in the third quarter helped to negate the slow sales from earlier in the year.
