This is an excellent 1985 BMW R80. Starts and runs perfect. Smooth idle. Handles fantastically. Transmission shift smoothly through all gears. Looks amazing for the year. Tank has nice shine with beautiful original paint and hand pinstripes. Has a couple tiny dings but overall the bike looks fantastic.
I purchased this from the original owner who took meticulous care of this bike until he stopped riding in 97 and let it sit. I restore vintage BMW's and this one is just too nice to touch so I tuned and am selling as is. We did an overall inspection and tune including head torque, valve adjustment, carburetor sync, timing adjustment, filter replacement, fluid change of engine, transmission, final drive, drive shaft, and forks. Everything was inspected and functions as it should. The previous owner said he replaced the timing chain before parking it. Generally after 60K these machines make some chain clatter. This one sounds nice and tight. Comes with a clear California title in my name in non operational status so no back fees. The only thing I would recommend would be new tires. These will do fine for a while but always nice to upgrade to new. I've decided to let the buyer get tires since everyone has their own favorite type. I can help set the bike up with tires for new buyer for cost. I strongly recommend any local bidders come see it in person. FIM to Revise WSBK Homologation Requirements
Fri, 17 Jan 2014The International Motorcycling Federation is considering modifying its homologation requirements for the World Superbike Championship following Bimota‘s somewhat surprising plans to re-enter the series. Under current regulations, manufacturers must produce a minimum number of motorcycles for it to be eligible to compete in the production-based WSBK championship. The official regulations currently require a minimum of 125 units produced for an initial homologation inspection, 500 units produced by June 30 of the current year, 1,000 units by the end of the current year and 2,000 units by the end of the following year.
