BMW R-Series description

Very nice original 1968 BMW R60/2, purchased from original owner, he did long trips from Columbus, OH to CA, New Orleans, and east coast, service records from new, sold 4-20-1968 by Penton Brothers, Amherst, OH, John Penton's dealership.  Oil changes averaged 1000 miles, have original owner manual, price tag, warranty card, invoice, tool kit, keys, air pump, Bike has 66,000 miles, with top end job, rings and valves in March 1989 at mileage 64,213, compression 135 each side, Here is what I have done during the two years I have owned.  New magneto, advance unit, rear end seal, bearings and seals in lower fork, tune up, new solo seat and breadloaf pillion. /5 brake shoes, Capital Cycle mufflers, new tires and tubes, tapered bearings, solo seat and breadloaf pillion, .  Comes with Wixom handlebar faring, narrow twin seat, BMW crash bar, needs chrome, fairing excellent. Has Craven bags and luggage rack, also tach and cable, unmounted but lack the oil pump unit, you can find on ebay for about $425.  Sheet metal is all original and in excellent condition, pin stripes are crisp and straight, front fender has slight dent where steering damper bolt was installed upside down, hard to see, I have a BMW roundel that I was going to mount on front fender to hide it. I removed all sheetmetal and taped off engine and driveline and painted the frame, glad it came out less than shiny perfect, looks to match the patina of bike, no runs but not super shiny.   All electrics work and I ride it weekly.  Start first kick EVERYTIME!  Running proper size rear tire, 3.50 X 18. Brakes are the best you will find on a /2.  NO leaks, smoke, funny noises, squeaks, etc.  Runs just like you would want an original bike in excellent condition.  Tranny shifts smooth, does not jump or miss gears. Ran it up to 80 MPH today, still has long legs, Rear rim a little rusty but hard to see behind bags, front rim looks great. Gas tank is perfect, no dents, scratches, original paint inside and out.  A close to perfect original bike that I would not hesitate to jump on and take a 6000 mile trip like I did in 1974 on a 1957 R69 model but my ass can't take it anymore. Call me if you have questions, 817.401.3888, I have had about 10 /2 bikes, some with sidecars, fairly familiar with this model.

BMW bling and new mittens

Fri, 08 Jul 2011

An hour and a half in my shed was all it took to bolt two boxes of goodies from R&G Racing on to my S1000RR. The casing covers (£190.00), cotton reels (£25.49 ), frame inserts(£21.00) and crash protectors (£67.99)are a doddle to bolt on and come with all the necessary allen bolts. The multi adjustable rearsets (£350.00) are equally as easy to fit (they must be if I can do it) and also come with clear instructions.

EICMA 2013: 2014 BMW R1200RT Revealed

Tue, 05 Nov 2013

We confess, the BMW R1200RT was a glaring omission from our list of top 10 motorcycles to watch at EICMA. There are so many new bikes coming out at the 2013 EICMA show, it was hard enough to narrow it down to just 10, but that doesn’t excuse us forgetting BMW is adding another model powered by the new R1200GS‘ liquid-cooled boxer engine. Follow the rest of our 2013 EICMA show coverage The peak numbers for the R1200RT are the same as with the GS, with BMW claiming 125 hp at 7700 rpm and 92.2 ft-lb at 6500 rpm.
