The Dakar version of BMW's F650GS dual-sport motorcycle is named after the famous race across the rugged terrain and endless deserts of north Africa. The F650GS Dakar is powered by a single-cylinder, 652cc water-cooled, double overhead camshaft engine that produces 50 bhp and 46 ft-lbs of torque. A five-speed gearbox and chain drive transfer power to the 21-inch rear wheel. Suspension travel for the Dakar is increased to 8.3 inches front and rear compared to 6.5 inches on the standard F650GS model. Front suspension uses telescopic forks. The rear suspension uses a shock absorber with adjustable spring pre-load. The Dakar features a distinctive blue and white paint scheme with a red, white and blue checkerboard pattern on the 4.5 gallon fuel tank. This 2003 F650GS Dakar includes the optional BMW anti-lock braking system (ABS), Heated Grips, Centerstand and a BMW Trunk. It is also equipped with an Ohlins rear shock, Jesse Bags, PIAA Lights, Hand Protectors and new Heidenau K60 Tires.

Mon, 23 Apr 2012The Netherlands hosted a dramatic weekend of World Superbike racing that featured a red-flagged wet race, several riders crashing while leading, a first-time race winner, a photo finish between two teammates and the reigning World Champion finishing out of the points because of a poor choice of tires. The 2011 WSBK Champion Carlos Checa arrived at Assen with the lead in the championship and a three-race winning streak, but opting to run wet tires in Race Two cost him the lead and may have contributed to a crash that severely injured Liberty Racing‘s Brett McCormick. Thu, 01 Apr 2010This is the lid that saved me from a face full of road and stopped a big bacon slicer (a front disc) from carving a canyon in the top of my head. This helmet was transformed from gleaming white accessory to scrap when I got back from taking the new BMW S1000RR to Morocco. A pedestrian ran into me from behind a bus and the two of us hit the ground. She’s okay and so am I apart from getting knocked out and breaking my shoulder.
