BMW K-Series description

"Frau Blucher" needs a new home, persistent back trouble has taken long-distance touring off the menu for me.  I've owned her for 6 years and to the best of my knowledge I'm the second owner.

This version of the K1200LT is equipped with about everything that was available at the time, including cruise control, reverse gear, power windshield, heated seats, heated grips, 4 speaker stereo with CD changer, CB Radio, Navigation, security system, etc. The only modifications I've made are a Mayer seat (rider's portion only) and a K&N air filter.  Maintenance has been performed religiously using synthetic lubricants, the battery is about 2 years old, (maintenance-free type) tires are Avon Storm Radials with good tread remaining.  The coolant, brake & clutch fluid, and spark plugs (Iridium type) have also been changed.  Once you remove the 431 screws and strip the bodywork this bike is surprisingly easy to work on.

This bike is in good to excellent condition, just a couple of minor cosmetic flaws.  The chrome trim pieces on both saddlebags are scraped, caused by driveway mishaps - I've never dropped the bike while moving.  One of the fairing "winglets" has some spots on it.  That's about it.  The paint is nearly flawless, the upholstery has no tears or noticeable wear.  No mechanical or electrical issues, everything works as it should.  DISCLAIMER - I've never turned on the CB Radio or the Navigation System because I simply don't care about those gizmos, and the NAV system is probably outdated/obsolete at this point.  I can verify that the electric windshield, cruise control, heated seats & grips, stereo and CD player/changer and the reverse gear all work just fine.  The bike has always been garaged in a dry climate - no rust, no sun fading.

I'll be honest - this is a heavy motorcycle and can be a double handful at low speeds, although the reverse gear does make it easier to maneuver in difficult parking spots. The girl ain't much fun around town, but once you hit the open road the magic carpet ride begins. Comfortable, smooth, good power, excellent weather protection, terrific fuel economy (close to 50 mpg in my hands, your mileage may vary) and a range of about 300 miles.  It also handles amazingly well on a mountain road, sort of like a dancing elephant, but a graceful one.  So what's not to like?

I live in Western Nebraska, approximately 2 1/2 hrs from Denver or 1 1/2 hrs from Cheyenne, Wyoming.  If you're a long way from here and wish to ride your prize home I'll be glad to meet you at the Denver airport.  No extra charge.  One last thing - I do ride the bike occasionally just to keep things loose and lubricated, so the odometer reading may change a little.

James Toseland Announces Retirement from Racing

Fri, 09 Sep 2011

Two-time World Superbike Champion James Toseland announced his immediate retirement from motorcycle racing due to a debilitating injury to his right wrist. Signed with the BMW Motor Italia racing team, Toseland has been limited to just seven of 20 races in this season’s WSBK Championship due to the wrist injury initially suffered during a private test at Spain’s Aragon circuit in March. After undergoing an operation for the injury, Toseland made two attempts at returning to racing, first at the Miller Motorsports Park round in May and again at the Silverstone round in July.

Aprilia Takes a Shot at BMW [video]

Tue, 22 Jun 2010

The very successful viral video BMW created for its S1000RR sportbike earlier this year has yet again been made fun of by another manufacturer, this time being Aprilia with their RSV4.  Now I am sure its not going to get the same amount of attention as the BMW spot but I love a good cat fight, hopefully BMW will respond…  stay tuned.
