BMW Very nice custom 2004 R1200C Montauk BMW - the only BMW 'Cruiser'
Very nice custom 2004 R1200C Montauk BMW. Alligator skin seats, performance muffler (original available), signal turnoff delay, flashing headlights ready to install, heated grips. Runs like a dream.
The only BMW built as a "Cruiser." You sit upright, which makes for a comfortable ride.
Now a collectors bike.
The Montana is one of, if not, the most deLuxe machines ever made. It has loaded with features: First, it has electronic computerized anti-lock brakes. But, not just "brakes." These brakes are second-to-none.
Then there is the suspension. Instead of just two shock struts sticking out in front, the R1200 BMW's have the astounding "Telelever" suspension. The suspensions on most motorcycles haven't changed a lot in fifty years. Not so here. Years ago, the BMW bikes had "Earl's Forks," which used the torque of the brake drum to lift the front of the motorcycle when braking. The Telelever system accomplishes the same thing, but in a much better way. Here's what it does: when you hit the brakes, the entire motorcycle remains more-or-less level. There is no "dipping" of the front end. Most bikes, when you hit that front brake, well, it reminds me of a circus elephant getting down on its knees. Then, when you come to a complete stop, the things bounce back up to level. Telelever eliminates all of that. You have to experience it to believe it, especially if you are used to the Harley ride.
It comes with the factory cargo bags (or whatever it is you call them). They are made of a molded plastic, custom covered in alligator leather. They look great, and are attached with a very clever release mechanism that means you can instantly remove them to take into a motel room. They also have locks to keep someone else from doing it.
At 17,000 miles the excellent BMW motor is just broken in.
Well, what else? Just ask.

2010 BMW S1000RR – First Ride
Fri, 20 Nov 2009UPDATE: Full Review now on Motorcycle.com (with video) We just spent the day ripping it up around the fabulous Portimao race circuit in Portugal on BMW’s new S1000RR supersport literbike, and it’s set to blow away perceptions of what a BMW motorcycle is. With 193 crankshaft horsepower and a claimed dry weight of 404 pounds, BMW says the S1000RR has the best power-to-weight ratio of any production bike. And, by the way the S1000 lofts its front wheel onto Portimao’s front straight at 150 mph, we’re becoming believers!
