BMW R-Series description

Up for auction, a very nice 2004 BMW R1150RT-P, set up as a long distance tourer/rally machine with quite a few amenities to that end.

This was a blatant copy of some of the features of the bike in the ad that MAX BMW ran, "Anatomy of an Iron Butt Motorcycle".  The main aim of this one was to not include all the high-tech computer equipment, as a way to keep weight down but rather the emphasis was on comfort for the 6'6" rider and good visibility at night.  In this, success was definitely achieved,

However, I have a K1600GT in my sights and even a very understanding and supportive spouse has limits.  Soooooo....this must go to make room.

Here are some of the features:

All work was done by MAX BMW in Brookfield, CT, and done well.  The bike was a bit of a handful prior to the start, so the 2d battery was deemed redundant, and removed along with about 8 lbs of un-needed wiring.

Besides the excellent, super bright headlight (unusual for a BMW), there are 3 sets of lights on the bike.  Fog on the bottom, pencil beam in the middle, driving lights on the top.  They can used in any combination the rider desires, and the stock RT-P switches were used except for the fog's.  All switches are labeled.  And when they are all on, night turns into the day, drastically reducing rider fatigue by providing a very powerful blast of light down the road.  In the pictures I have tried to show each set of lights on from the front, and then one picture from slightly right of front to show all 3 sets fired up.

Russell heated Day-Long Saddle, w/ leather inserts.  Very comfy, of course.

K40 combo radar detector/laser jammer, with main unit mounted in tail trunk as shown by picture.  I used this more for the laser jammer part and it never failed to buy me a few seconds to slow down, and I've never gotten a ticket.  There are 2 small indicator lights which show when the unit is operating, but they are not in the line of sight, and the audible signal is not that loud. That's why I have a mount for...

A Valentine 1, (not included), which resides in a black box(included) from Legal Speeding on the aftermarket shelf from Surburban Machinery, along with the sending unit for a Legal Speeding heads-up display.

Bar risers, and peg lowering kit, also from Suburban Machinery.

An antenna(included)for XM for a Garmin GPS w/ XM (not included).

Aeroflow tall windscreen.  Very effective.

The tank bag base is not included.

There is a Crampbuster-type throttle control, and an o-ring kit mounted on the grips.  Heated grips work great.

There are 2 non-working antennas on the bike to complete the "Crown Vic effect", to where when most drivers see the bike in the rear-view they pull over to let you by.  In a white open face, with khaki's and a black leather jacket, thee effect is somewhat complete and I even got a wave or two from State Police in Virginia while riding home from the 2009 BMWMOA Rally.

Two red marker lights on the rear still work, for a little bit of extra visiblity.

Tires are in good shape, bike does not use any oil between changes (every 5,000 miles, always done by the dealer).

I lucked out in buying this bike.  A PD in Ohio purchased it, but shortly thereafter, the BMW dealer moved/closed so getting service was about 200 miles away.  They switched to a Harley, and I bought this one.

Now it can be yours.  Sale is final, buyer is responsible for all shipping costs, but storing it for a short while is not a problem.  PayPal only!  25% deposit upon completion of auction, remainder within 48 hours.

Bid with confidence, you'll be getting a hell of a bike.  Other than a little bug ick from a recent ride, there is nothing it needs.

Thanks for looking and good luck!

BMW announced it will introduce an all-new Boxer to celebrate its 90th year of motorcycle production, but you didn’t think the German manufacturer would stop there without a couple of other special edition models, did you? To mark the anniversary, BMW revealed special edition “90 Jahre BMW Motorrad” versions of its R1200GS adventure bike, R1200R roadster and R1200RT tourer in Milan at the 2012 EICMA Show.
