BMW R-Series description

Very clean low mile 96 R1100R.  Best deal around for a high quality sport tour bike.  Classic "oilhead" BMW opposed twin.  8900 miles. Senior owned, not much time to ride.  Excellent shape, a couple minor nicks in the plastic sidebags, no dents in tank, pretty much a very really clean bike.  Drives like a dream.  Tires have about 1000 miles on them.  I am the 3rd owner, and bought the bike with 8000 miles on it this spring.  The 2nd owner bought it 2 years ago with 2100 miles on it and gave it a tuneup, new battery, powercommander chip, and a K+N air filter, so it's had about 6000 miles in the 2 years he owned it.  First owner obviously didn't use it much.  Almost forgot to mention, there is a small dent in the headlight trim ring, barely noticeable.  New part is about 20 bucks.  Thats really about it cosmetically.

BMW Produces 500,000th GS Boxer

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

BMW‘s most important model reached an important milestone as the 500,000th boxer-engined GS rolled off the company’s production line in Berlin, Germany. The landmark liquid-cooled 2014 R1200GS follows a lineage half a million strong of flat-twin adventure tourers tracing back to the first R80G/S produced in 1980. “As a plant it is a privilege for us to continue building on the successful history of the legendary flat-twin GS,” says Marc Sielemann, head of the Berlin plant which produces the bulk of BMW’s motorcycles since 1969.

Cal looking good

Sun, 20 Mar 2011

Make no mistake Cal Crutchlow is doing an amazing job during his short career in Moto GP. He is asking not to be compared to Ben Spies but when you consider Spies had three Moto GP races under his belt at the same point in his career, Cal's 8th position in Qatar qualifying then 11th in the race is a pretty solid start.  He ended 2010 as one of the best world's best superbike riders but the 800cc Moto GP machines require different riding skills. Watching trackside it is easy to see the the riders have to brake later backshift quicker before getting back on the throttle on the corner entry. With the help of advanced electronics this loads the front tyre earlier giving the potential for greater momentum that continues past the apex to the corner exit and beyond.

WSBK 2013: Monza Race Report

Mon, 13 May 2013

Eugene Laverty and Marco Melandri split a pair of victories at Monza but the most biggest news from the World Superbike weekend was a strange series of appeals after Race Two that saw Tom Sykes finish third, relegated to fourth and then reinstated on the final step of the podium. The unusual mix-up occurred after Sykes, sitting in third place, ran off track and into the run off area on Turn 5 on his final lap. The Kawasaki rider returned to the track again in third place where he finished ahead of Aprilia‘s Sylvain Guintoli.
