BMW R-Series description

This 1984 R100RS 'Last Edition' is being offered for sale. In 1983 BMW was planning to discontinue the Boxer engine in favor of the new, at the time, K models. BMW manufactured a small number of 'Last Edition' models for the 1984 model year. These were offered as the R100CS with the small cafe style fairing from the earlier R90S, the R100RT touring model and this, the popular R100RS. The R100RS gained fame as the first production motorcycle with a frame-mounted, wind-tunnel designed fairing offering incredible weather protection in foul weather. These were sold with an optional solo-seat along with the dual seat. The solo seat is a highly sought after item that often commands prices in excess of $1,000 in fair condition.

This particular machine has been well cared for during its 38,749 miles, has been thoroughly serviced and needs nothing but a new owner. It has beautiful pearl weiss paint recreated by using the original paint from Glasurit just as the factory used and applied by a 20 year veteran of BMW motorcycle refinishing. The beautiful paint is finished off with hand-laid pinstripes of the correct color and width.

Please message me for more details and a 13 minute video of this bike in action and a review of it on the lift.

Defects: Since this is a twenty-nine year old used motorcycle and not a museum relic this machine obviously has some minor defects as outlined below:

A: There is a small crack on the top, front of the right saddlebag. This is not large enough to allow water through and, as such, has not been repaired

B: The bottom of the right valve cover has some cosmetic damage from a light tip-over as seen in the video

C: The included dual-seat has a crack around the rear seat hinge as is so common with these older BMW seat bases. A repair is possible

D: The voltmeter is inaccurate as many are. The charging system works quite well and the battery is in excellent condition

E: The clock no longer works. This is a common problem with these old clocks and meters

F: The exhaust front cross-over pipe was painted black in an attempt to make it less conspicuous as opposed to eliminating it

G: Frame paint has been 'touched-up' previously. While it doesn't look bad it is not 'restoration-fresh'

H: There is a tiny chip in the paint on the right side of the lower fairing as seen in the video

Disclaimers & pertinent information: I am selling this R100RS for a close friend and I feel that I have described every flaw in this machine to the best of my ability. I feel capable of that task as I am the individual who has serviced this RS since the current owner purchased it in 2007. Since this is a twenty-nine year old antique motorcycle it obviously is being sold in an as-is condition with no warranty expressed, implied or remotely suggested. If it breaks it will be your own responsibility to finance any & all repairs. That being said this has been a reliable and pleasurable primary ride for the owner over the past 6 years of ownership. It is being sold reluctantly and due to extenuating circumstances this is the last of a small collection of BMW motorcycles owned by this gentleman. The motorcycle is located in Pinardville, New Hampshire at my business, Affordable Beemer Services LLC.  Shipping arrangements & costs will be the sole responsibility of the winning bidder. I will assist with loading the motorcycle and I am happy to deliver the motorcycle for $1.50 per loaded mile. This auction includes storage of this machine for the month of September 2013 at the winning bidders complete risk. Insurance is recommended. The winning bidder will be required to make a $1,500 minimum payment through PayPal within 24 hours of the auctions end with the balance paid via certified check or cash prior to release and/or delivery of the motorcycle. The owner of this machine is an attorney and as such the winning bidder will be required to sign, have notarized and return a bill of sale provided by the attorney owner before the motorcycle is released. This is done to discourage fraudulent bidders from bidding. I ask that if you have a feedback rating of less than 20 that you contact me before you bid. This motorcycle is also advertised and offered for sale locally and I hereby reserve the right to end the auction at any time deemed necessary or per order of the owner. I am happy to answer your questions and I will do my best to reply as quickly and thoroughly as possible.

Thank you & I wish you the best of luck bidding for this wonderful BMW R100RS Last Edition, Chris R. Harris
