BMW R-Series description

1970 BMW R60/5 with Cozy Rocket Sidecar.

This is a great example of a well maintained BMW R60 with only 33,166 miles. The cycle runs like a top and has had many recent new parts to make it ready to ride across town or across the country. Before the sidecar was added in 2016 the bike was completely gone through while there was still easy access. All cables were replaced. New Tires. Valves adjusted. Points adjusted. New spark plugs. Carburetors cleaned and synced.

The sidecar was purchased new in 2015 and has less than 500 miles on it. I installed and aligned the sidecar myself, this is the fourth rig I have set up. The cycle and sidecar track down the road very well and can be ridden "hands off." The /5 series frames are not a good fit for "universal" mounts and I went the extra mile by purchasing a custom made subframe made specifically for this cycle. The subframe from DMC Sidecars distributes the stress from the extra weight of the sidecar to multiple points on the frame for a very secure and rigid mount. A subframe mounting system is the only way to properly attach a sidecar to a BMW /5 series motorcycle.

This is a beautiful and well matched combination. The light weight sidecar is perfectly suited to the BMW R60. The rig is very comfortable at 55-60 MPH on the highway but will be out of its element at interstate speeds of over 70 MPH. It will travel at 70 but that is pushing it for this 46 year old cycle hauling the added weight of the sidecar.

Be ready to answer questions wherever you go because this rig garners lots of attention. The sidecar is the perfect solution to ride your motorcycle every day to accomplish errands or just have fun. A grocery store run is no problem with room for multiple bags with room to spare. Start riding your cycle everywhere because all the storage challenges of a motorcycle are solved when you have a sidecar. There is a tonneau cover for the sidecar. The sidecar also has a rear package shelf and windshield that will be included. There is ample lockable storage behind the sidecar seat.

The bike exhibits some small blemishes commensurate with a 46 year old cycle. Sidecar fender has small dent on bottom due to bumping a wall while maneuvering in garage. Both cycle and sidecar garage kept since I have owned them. Original mirror and turn signals will be included if you would like to return the cycle to stock.

Kozi Rocket Sidecar: $3495
DMC Custom Sidecar Mount DMC-MS-BMW-/5: $775

Used Review: Arai RX-7 Corsair helmet

Thu, 01 Apr 2010

This is the lid that saved me from a face full of road and stopped a big bacon slicer (a front disc) from carving a canyon in the top of my head.  This helmet was transformed from gleaming white accessory to scrap when I got back from taking the new BMW S1000RR to Morocco. A pedestrian ran into me from behind a bus and the two of us hit the ground. She’s okay and so am I apart from getting knocked out and breaking my shoulder.

BMW is Working On An Electric Boxer Motorcycle

Tue, 14 Jun 2022

BMW's electric future may have a nod to its past BMW released its second electric scooter earlier this year in the CE 04, and has made clear it plans to produce more electric two-wheelers in the near future. Oliver Zipse, chairman of the board of management for BMW AG, recently went as far as to say BMW Motorrad will introduce a new electric two-wheeler every 18 to 24 months, with the next model coming in 2023. While the initial models will be scooters or “urban mobility vehicles,” BMW is expected to eventually add electric motorcycles to its lineup.

The solution to a pricey GPS mount

Wed, 26 Aug 2009

So you've gone out and bought your BMW R1200GS, you're ready to circumnavigate the globe's toughest roads - or ride over some potholes on your way to work - but you've got a dilemma: no way to mount your GPS device! So what you should do is exactly what this chap's done and use a spatula and a few rubber bands to mount-up your GPS for easy use. And the bonus is that when you get to where you're going, you can use the spatula with your BBQ and triple it up as a fly-swatter too.
