BMW R-Series description

Available for your bidding consideration is this 1968 BMW R60 a virtual  original condition survivor which I am list for the current owner and longtime friend who had purchased it in 1990 here in Oregon so the history beyond that is unknown but it may have been  an Oregon bike since new. He had ridden it for a few years and since had been stored in his garage till now and has decided to sell since he is now to old to ride. During storage it has been started-run and serviced periodically. About 2 years ago the following was done, the carburetors have been rebuilt [nothing ugly in the float bowls] with new fuel hoses, all fluids were changed [engine oil-transmission oil-differential oil] the engine oil pan was removed-cleaned-resealed. Used Valvoline VR1 racing oil which still has zinc added.A new Bosch marked battery and cushion was installed which still holds a good charge, new fuel tank and headlight mounting isolators. I'm not sure but I have heard the battery contents can be removed once the battery has reached the end of its service life and replaced with a gel-cell battery thereby retaining the correct appearance of the original style battery. The VIN 1812510 is triple matching [tag-frame-engine] With 22222 miles. Have the clear title on hand. I will describe this as much in detail as is practical, striving for full transparency. It is in very good overall solid operational condition and still retains good visual appeal. The keys for the locking fuel cap-steering lock-tool box lock]  The kick starter catches at the top of the stroke which can be manipulated so as not to be so irritating. The other day it started on the 2nd kick stroke after sitting for a week. Have been using 92 octane non ethanol fuel. There is no smoke in the exhaust both cold and hot. All gear shift points are smooth and solid. The clutch grip is solid, the throw out bearing is slightly audible when the clutch lever is depressed. The right side valve cover has the bottom fin broken off. There is slight oil seepage at the cylinder head to barrel gaskets. Otherwise no leaks. The exhaust system is really in mint condition with no chrome loss-lifting, beautiful head pipes down to the cross over showing only the usual heat discoloration. Beautiful smooth chrome on both mufflers with no dings dents or scuffing. There is slight exhaust blow by at the right side head pipe to cylinder head gasket, nice to know that both threaded head pipe retaining collars rotate smoothly. The seat is leather covered and very comfortable. The fuel tank is also in mint condition with no dings or dents, very nice paint condition, only a few very light scratches. The inside is mint clean with the factory red seal coating. Nice operational, non leaking fuel valve. The speedometer-odometer-trip meter work smoothly. The headlight bucket and tail light fixture are very nice inside. The Bosch marked headlight bulb-lens assembly is crystal clear. The electrical system is fully functional, everything lights up, generator charging is good, only the horn does not work. The wiring harness is 90% plus unmolested. The handle bars appear to have had a wind screen bolted to the crossbar which has distorted due to over tightening, chrome loss-lifting is evident. The left rear view mirror mount threads are stripped. The tires are both in need of replacement, but will hold air for a couple of weeks, both rims and spokes show chrome lifting but are still somewhat visually appealing. The front fender has some sheet metal damage at the top as shown in the picture and a small scuff at the leading edge. The rear fender also has some sheet metal damage at the top around the 2 grommets as pictured, the area right behind the battery has been crudely brush painted way back when, most likely to treat battery acid corrosion, the bottom fender has 2 holes drilled most likely for a mud flap.   No secret reserve price, the opening bid is the reserve price. Please ask any questions you may have on anything I may not have covered. Thanks very much for looking.

BMW has launched an HP Race Power Kit for the S1000 RR costing £2,850 including VAT.For trackday riders and racers, the kit - a new ECU and an Akrapovic exhaust system - increases peak power and torque, while optimising the bike’s engine, braking and power management systems, claim BMW, for short circuit riding and racing.Ayrton Badovini’s 2010 FIM Superstock 1000 championship-winning bike uses the HP Race Power Kit. It can also be found on the Jentin Racing-BMW Motorrad S 1000 RR being raced by Richard Cooper in the British National Superstock championship.• Maximum engine output increased by 4bhp and 6lb.ft to 197bhp (147kW) and 88.5 lb.ft (120 Nm) with power and torque significantly bolstered throughout the key 5000 to 9000 rpm midrange• Once installed, the power mapping for the four engine management riding modes (‘Rain’, ‘Sport’, ‘Race’ and ‘Slick’) is identical and the S 1000 RR delivers the full 197bhp across all four modes• The different modes instead alter the electronic rider aids with the Race ABS reducing input and the Dynamic Traction Control allowing full power at greater lean angles as the modes move from ‘Rain’ through to ‘Slick’• Engine braking on overrun is reduced giving more balanced corner entry• Pit-lane limiter activated when the start button is held down in first gear (actual speed maintained may vary with the bike’s gearing)• Akrapovic titanium and carbon-fibre full exhaust system saves 6.8kg over stock and includes a baffle which allows the exhaust to meet noise regulations in place at some circuits

BMW clothing offer an array of sizing, not just ‘small, medium and large’ of other manufacturers. They will let you pre-order a choice of size combinations to try with no obligation to purchase. As for the quality you’d think you were on a visit to Nasa with everything they’ve thrown into their textiles – Gore-tex laminated with Armacor provides abrasion and heat resistance.
