BMW R-Series description

I have owned this bike for the last 6 years after acquired it from the original owner in Minnesota. The bike was shipped the bike to Todd Rasmussen in Oklahoma for a complete restoration and I gave Todd instructions to build me a show quality bike to the highest standards while maintaining absolute originality from the factory wherever possible. Todd’s work is well known in the BMW circles and I have had NO issues with anything he has ever built for me over the years including my prewar bikes. His attention to detail and originality are meticulous.

The bike has nearly 500 miles on the clock now and it is fully sorted and tuned. The valves have been adjusted recently along with cylinder head re-torque and oil change with ZDDP zinc additive. Plugs were changed and timing readjusted. This bike is an exceptional runner and a quality rider. Strong power through all gears equal compression between the cylinders. No strange noises or vibrations and control cables and carbs are all dialed in. This bike is ready for a cross country tour or show and has no issues. The bike has European handle bars, new passenger Denfeld saddle seat, spare luggage rack, full BMW tool kit, original manual and original spare key. All bugs and minor adjustments were worked out during these first 500 miles. Bike has a clear Minnesota title but I have yet to register it here in California.

Every component has been replaced or restored as needed and all original hardware was re-used and re-plated in cad. Correct gray cloth fuel lines were custom made (not silver spray painted) and the original petcock has been rebuilt, both a rarity to be seen. I have one small touched up chip on the bottom side of the drive shaft housing (see photo), a very small left side scratch on top of the muffler, and the drive shaft flexible boot that is beginning to show signs of surface cracking between the bellows. The bike also can accumulate a teaspoon of oil under the right side of the oil pan when not used for a few weeks so may need a re-torque or replacement of the pan seal to stay dry. So, it isn’t a Pebble Beach 10 point bike like it was the day I took delivery but it is very close. This machine is a proven road bike that is tuned and sorted from break in.

I am only selling the bike to free up space in my shop as I have a significantly costly car project ongoing and several other bikes that need attention. I have a reasonable reserve but if it doesn’t sell my heart won’t be broken as I don’t believe these bikes will be going down in value anytime soon (unlike my 401K). Please feel free to ask any questions and I’ll answer honestly.

Vines motorcycle scrappage

Fri, 17 Jul 2009

Following this year’s earlier Budget announcement about the government’s car scrappage scheme, Vines of Guildford BMW has created a similar scheme for motorcycles. Bike owners with motorcycles bought five or more years ago will be given £1,000 off the list price of a new BMW motorcycle when using their old bike as a part-exchange*.  Riders just need to ensure they have at least six months MOT left and the bike must be taxed with clear HPI.  Just like the Government’s car scrappage scheme has been put in place to help drivers, and the car industry, through tough economic times, Vines of Guildford wanted to offer motorcyclists the same opportunity, to purchase a brand new BMW motorcycle with the benefit of the £1,000 part exchange. As well as enjoying this benefit on the purchase price of a new BMW bike, riders can also look forward to complimentary panniers with all new R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure models, and complimentary Zumo sat nav system with the new R1200RT until 30 Sept, plus access to BMW’s Select Finance options to get riders on their bikes straight away with the option to change their new bike every two to three years.

Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP Coming to US for 2025

Fri, 07 Jun 2024

Updated model gets certified by CARB After being absent from the 2024 offerings, the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP is poised to return to American Honda’s lineup for 2025 with the updates introduced at EICMA. The Fireblade SP was last offered in the U.S. as a 2023 model, and when Honda announced an updated version last November, we were disappointed to hear nary a peep from American Honda about the superbike.
