WSBK 2012: Assen Results

The Netherlands hosted a dramatic weekend of World Superbike racing that featured a red-flagged wet race, several riders crashing while leading, a first-time race winner, a photo finish between two teammates and the reigning World Champion finishing out of the points because of a poor choice of tires. The 2011 WSBK Champion Carlos Checa arrived at Assen with the lead in the championship and a three-race winning streak, but opting to run wet tires in Race Two cost him the lead and may have contributed to a crash that severely injured Liberty Racing‘s Brett McCormick. EICMA 2012: BMW F800GT Announced as Replacement for F800ST

As we reported in August, BMW is replacing its F800ST sport tourer with a new, more touring-oriented version called the F800GT. Revealed at the 2012 EICMA Show in Milan, Italy, the 2013 BMW F800ST is equipped with a 798cc parallel Twin engine claiming 88 hp at 8000rpm, an increase from the BMW F800ST’s claim of 84 hp at 8000rpm (the 2012 F700GS and F800GS also claims 84hp from a similar engine.) Other changes include better wind protection, lighter wheels, new higher-mounted handlebars, repositioned footrests, and load capacity increased to 456 pounds from 432 pounds. Like all current BMW motorcycles, the F800GT comes standard with ABS.

2012 BMW S1000RR Engine Recall

BMW is issuing a recall on the 2012 BMW S1000RR because of a risk of engine failure. According to a post on the official BMW Motorcycles USA Facebook page, the connecting rod bolts may loosen and fall out. This may result cause the engine to seize, creating the risk of a crash.
