Both combine a modern sporty and classical motorcycle design with greater riding enjoyment. Generating higher torque, the new boxer engine provides an extra boost of power. The new BMW R 1200 R models deliver greater power and acceleration at the top rpm range, whereas the boxer in the predecessor model had already provided superior acceleration under all conditions. Derived from the BMW HP2 Sport, the new boxer with 1,170 cubic centimeters and DOHC valve gear, is the same as the engines in the BMW R 1200 GS and BMW R 1200 RT. Thanks to ultra-modern technology, the new BMW roadsters are unique in the roadster segment. BMW Reports 2012 Sales Results
Tue, 19 Mar 2013BMW released its year-end 2012 financial report, reporting revenues of 1.49 billion euros (US$1.93 billion) from its motorcycle business in 2012, up from 1.44 billion euros in 2011. The increased revenues came in a record year for BMW with the company selling an all-time record of 106,358 motorcycles in 2012. Despite the increase in sales revenue, BMW reported a much smaller profit from its motorcycle business, earning 9 million euros (US$11.6 million) in 2012, compared to 45 million euros in 2011.
BMW R 18 Roctane Confirmed in Homologation Filings
Fri, 31 Mar 2023Evidence suggests a performance cruiser variant BMW is preparing to add a new model to its 1,802cc boxer family, receiving type approval in Switzerland for a new variant called the R 18 Roctane. The type approval data for the Roctane shows much in common with the existing R 18 models, but with some notable differences. For one, the R 18 Roctane has an internal model code of “0N61,” while the model codes for the R 18, R 18 Classic, R 18 B, and R 18 Transcontinental all have model codes beginning with “0L.” This suggests the Roctane differs from the other models in a fairly significant way, either with a chassis update or a different form factor.
