Yamaha Teases New Naked Model for EICMA – Video
Mon, 28 Oct 2013Earlier this year, Yamaha started a teaser campaign called “Dark Side of Japan” that culminated in the introduction this summer of the FZ-09 naked Triple (also known as the MT-09 in other markets). It’s now fall, but apparently Yamaha has more hiding in the Dark Side, in another new naked motorcycle.
Yamaha has released another new teaser video called “Rise Up” for a new model to be unveiled Nov. 4, just ahead of the 2013 EICMA show. The video itself reveals very few details about the new model. It features a helmeted and armored rider standing on a mechanical music box built from various motorcycle components playing Brahms’ Lullaby.

The video also includes the following description:
Just over the horizon there’s a new kind of 2-wheeled animal heading this way. It’s provocative. It’s naked. And it’s agile.
The Dark Side of Japan is about to deliver another rude awakening to the streets of Europe.
And resistance to this unstoppable force is impossible.
Now, more than ever, sleeping bikers have a reason to rise up and ride.
At the end of the video is the same three-pointed logo used for the FZ-09/MT-09, implying the new naked may belong to the same model family. This suggests the new model could be in the same model family, possibly in a smaller displacement. In Europe, Yamaha has been offering two other MT models, the 660cc single-cylinder MT-03 and the 1605cc MT-01 V-Twin.
It’s not clear what kind of engine the new model would use. If it’s another Triple, it could be a 675cc model to compete against the Triumph Street Triple or MV Agusta Brutale 675. Also possible is a 650cc Twin to go up against the Kawasaki ER-6n and Suzuki SFV650
We’ll have to wait until Nov. 4 to find out.
