Sidecar Racer Sandor Pohl Dies in Assen Race
Tue, 06 Aug 2013Sidecar racing passenger Sandor Pohl succumbed to injuries suffered in an accident at a Sidecar World Championship race at the TT Assen in the Netherlands.
Pohl and pilot Stefan Kiser were rounding a corner when the rear of their Suzuki-powered LCR sidecar began to slide. The sidecar began to spin before the momentum caused the machine to flip over. Pohl was dislodged from the sidecar, landing onto the track before being struck by another sidecar.
The race was immediately halted as emergency crews saw to the fallen racer. Pohl passed away as he was being transferred to the medical center.
Pohl, 45, had been racing sidecars since 2010. This was his first season partnering with Kiser. The team was 13th in the championship heading into Assen.
