Put your bike on the battery diet

Thu, 14 Oct 2010

We're surrounded by weight loss tips, low calorie diets and yoga classes - and the same can be said for your bike. In efforts to reduce weight you remove unnecessary bits and add lightweight components to improve performance.

But have you ever thought about the weight that can be reduced from the vital lump behind the heart of your machine. Why not put your bike on a diet with this lightweight lithium battery, offering a saving of approximately 5kg.

The battery adopts the latest in lightweight power technology with loads of scientific terminology - Lithium Ferrous Nano Phosphate a.k.a LiFePO4 to be exact.

The Racing Batteries are available in two variations four cell which hits the scales at 499 grams and priced at £129.99 for 600cc and upwards and the larger eight cell battery, weighing 964 grams, for larger capacity bikes, like v-twins, costing £229.99.

Designed in CAD systems and CNC machined the batteries are less than half the size of the battery currently charging your bike and can produce more current from a smaller quantity of material than regular lead acid units.

Both compact and high powered the battery frees up space under the seat for more important items, like sandwiches, whilst offering greater power to amp up your ride.

All Racing Batteries are direct replacements for your existing lead acid battery - simply remove your old battery and replace it with a Racing Battery - no other modifications are required - and you look after it just like you would a lead acid unit.

NB: The only negative of LiFePO4 vs lead/acid is the Ah (Amp hours) rating is lower for LiFePO4. This is only ever an issue if you plan to leave your lights or other electrical items on, without the engine running, for long periods of time.
