More on BMW’s Record-Setting 2011 Motorcycle Sales Figures

BMW has released additional information breaking down its record 2011 sales. As previously reported, the German manufacturer sold a record 104,286 units in 2011, with a 7.4% year-on-year growth in the United States alone.

According to BMW, the company sold 10,203 units in the U.S., making it the third largest market for BMW, behind Germany (20,002 units) and Italy (13,600 units).

While the S1000RR was BMW Motorrad USA’s top seller, BMW’s worldwide sales leader continues ot be the R1200GS adventure tourer. BMW sold 18,413 units of the R1200GS and an additional 10,453 units of the R1200GS Adventure variant. Together, the two R1200GS models account for 27.7% of BMW’s sales.

The BMW F800GS was another popular seller, at 9,829 units. The S1000RR accounted for 9,044 units, worldwide in 2011. The new six-cylinder K1600GT and K1600GTL touring models were next on BMW’s sales chart, with 8,019 units sold.

Other notable figures include 7,986 units of the BMW F800R, 7,310 units of the R1200R and 6,145 units of the F650GS.

“This outstanding sales result shows that we are on the right track in terms of our product and market strategy. We have achieved yet another sales record within a persistently challenging market environment,” says Henrik von Kuenheim, general director of BMW Motorrad. “At the same time we have been able to take on market leadership and strengthen our market position in over 15 countries. In business performance terms we anticipate an all-time high in fiscal 2011 for both turnover and revenue.
