Mexico City Celebrates H-D 110th Anniversary With City’s Largest Motorcycle Parade

Wed, 15 May 2013

As part of Harley-Davidson’s global 110th anniversary celebration, over 5000 motorcyclists descended upon Mexico City to join in the festive occasion, making this Mexico City’s largest motorcycle parade in history.

Serving as Grand Marshalls for the parade, Mayor Dr. Miguel Angel Mancera, Minister of Public Safety Dr. Jesús Rodríguez, and Minister of Tourism Miguel Torruco led the riders from the Zócalo, a large plaza located in the city’s historical center, and continued through several main avenues including Tacuba, Hidalgo and the popular Avenida la Reforma, among others.

The Hermanos Rodriguez Speedway was the final destination, where fans were entertained by a show by the ‘Umbrella Girls,’ Harley Davidson’s famous models. The JUMPSTART experience was also available. This dynamometer allows one to simulate riding a Harley Davidson to its limits without the danger. For the grand finale, guest of honor, the ‘Godfather of Shock Rock’ Alice Cooper, performed and took concert-goers back to rocks’ glory days.

As fun as the parade was, it also had a positive impact on the local economy, as one would imagine. Minister of Tourism Miguel Torruco and event organizers estimate approximately 80% hotel occupancy and over $2 million in revenue.
