Limited Edition 2022 Ducati XDiavel Nera First Look

$29,795 for an XDiavel with an artisanal leather seat

Ducati revealed a new limited edition XDiavel produced in conjunction with Italian furniture and interior design house Poltrona Frau. The 2022 Ducati XDiavel Nera will be available in a numbered run of 500 units, priced at US$29,795. That’s a hefty $4,200 premium over the XDiavel S.

An interior design studio may seem like an odd choice to collaborate on a motorcycle. Ducati’s actually working with Poltrona Frau’s Interiors in Motion Business Unit, a division that focuses on leather interiors for automotive, aviation and rail vehicles, which makes a bit more sense.

Making less sense is what the extra 42 Benjamins get you: a black-on-black livery plus a special leather saddle.

The seat is constructed of a hand-crafted soft natural leather called “Pelle Frau.” Poltrona Frau says the material undergoes a specific tanning process to provide breathability, plux rub and stain resistance. The XDiavel Nera’s seats are laser-engraved with an “X” pattern and come in a choice of five colors: Siam Red, Steel Blue, Cemento (gray), India (orange) and Selva (green).

The Nera comes with the standard seat as well as a wider comfort saddle and a backrest, all in the same color of Pelle Frau leather. All 500 XDiavel Nera models will also come with an exclusive key ring and a Pelle Frau document holder.

The black-on-black livery is highlighted by engine head covers and brake calipers in Ducati Red, paired with machined forged rims painted a glossy black. The XDiavel Nera can also be ordered with a dedicated helmet in a similar black-on-black motif.

The Nera is otherwise similar to the regular XDiavel S, featuring a Testrastretta DVT 1262 engine, steel trellis chassis, belt drive, and 240mm-wide rear tire.

The 2022 Ducati XDiavel Nera is available for order now, and is due to arrive in dealerships in March. Again, the Nera is priced at $29,795, a premium price over the XDiavel ($25,595), the XDiavel Dark ($20,895) and the XDiavel Black Star ($25,995).

The Nera was revealed in the first of three Ducati World Première online presentations. While we can respect the craftsmanship of a finely made leather seat, we hope the other two, scheduled for March 3 and March 10, will be a bit more interesting.

I understand and like some limited editions and special editions, but the point of this one is over my head.

I guess there must be a base of very wealthy bikers (or collectors) out there just waiting for the next 'exclusive' model to roll out. Otherwise, these would not exist. With no functional improvements over the 'regular' bike, they provide no reason for the performance rider to buy. (Says the guy who wishes he'd bought that green Matrix Ducati)
