Kawasaki Re-Signs Multi-Year Contracts with Villopoto and Weimer
Fri, 07 Sep 2012Ryan Villopoto and Jake Weimer have signed multi-year contract extensions with Kawasaki, ensuring the two riders will continue competing for Team Green in AMA Supercross and AMA Motocross championships through 2013 and beyond.
Villopoto and Kawasaki have been a winning combination both indoors and outdoors. Villopoto won three 250 motocross titles and a Supercross Lites West Region title with Kawasaki before moving up to the 450 class in 2009, winning two Supercross races in his rookie year.
An injury cut short his 2010 season but Villopoto returned to action in 2011, winning a tightly-fought Supercross title by four points over Chad Reed and 10 points over Ryan Dungey. Villopoto carried the momentum from his first 450 title by winning the 2011 AMA Motocross title, the Motocross of Nations Chamberlin trophy and claimed the $1 million prize for winning all three motos in the Monster Energy Cup.
This season, Villopoto won his second consecutive Supercross title but an injury prevented him from repeating as Motocross champion as well.
Weimer joined Kawasaki this season and finished fifth overall in the Supercross championship and currently sits fourth in the Motocross championship. Racing in the 250 class, Weimer also won the 2010 Supercross Lites West Region title and the 2009 Motocross of Nations.
