KTM Announces Record Sales of 123,859 Motorcycles in 2013

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

KTM announced a 15.6% increase in motorcycles sales in 2013, thanks in large part to expansion into Asian and South American markets.

The Austrian manufacturer sold 123,859 motorcycles in 2013, compared to the previous annual sales record of 107,142 motorcycles set in 2012. Increased sales translated to revenues of €716.3 million (US$971.0 million) in 2013, a new record shattering the previous record of €612.0 million set the previous year by 17.0%.

Based on these results, KTM claims to be the world’s fastest-growing motorcycle brand for the third consecutive year. Take BMW as a comparison. According to each company’s sales reports, KTM narrowly outsold BMW in 2012 by 784 motorcycles. BMW had a good 2013, reporting a 2.4% increase in motorcycles sales, with a new company record of 108,872 motorcycles sold. KTM however outsold BMW by 14,987 motorcycles this past year, going from a statistical tie to an outright thumping.

Much of KTM’s growth can be attributed to its performance in India with the help of its Indian business partner Bajaj. Specific sales data is unavailable, but KTM had previously announced an increase of 3,392 units of the 125 Duke and 200 Duke sold through Bajaj in the first six months of 2013.
