Husqvarna E-Pilen Concept Previews a Range of Electric Models

E-Pilen slated for 2022 market launch

Husqvarna revealed its new electric E-Pilen Concept, offering a taste of what the company promises will be a range of zero-emissions products.

As we’ve previously reported on Husqvarna’s electric vehicle plans, the E-Pilen is slated to be the first electric streetbike in Pierer Mobility’s portfolio. Pierer Mobility previously set a 2022 goal for bringing the E-Pilen to market, and the concept reveal suggests development is on track.

The E-Pilen Concept shares an obvious stylistic connection to Husqvarna’s Svartpilen and Vitpilen streetbikes, with a similarly-shaped “fuel tank”. Instead of gasoline, however, the E-Pilen Concept uses a modular and swappable battery system. Husqvarna, through KTM, is part of a recently-formed consortium aiming to establish a standard for swappable battery packs. Other members of the consortium include Piaggio, Yamaha, and Honda, which has previously shown an electric PCX that uses swappable batteries.

According to Husqvarna, the E-Pilen Concept’s electric motor will have an 8 kW (10 hp) motor and a range of 100 km (62 miles), making it clear it was developed to be an urban commuter. Husqvarna did not say how long it would take batteries to charge, but that’s part of the appeal of a swappable battery system. Instead of plugging your bike in for a couple of hours, you swap in a freshly charged battery pack and continue on your way.

The E-Pilen won’t be the only electric Husqvarna on the way. Husqvarna says the E-Pilen is just one of several zero emissions urban vehicles in the works, with an E-Scooter also expected to launch in 2022.

For those who are more interested in gasoline-powered Husqvarnas, this E-mobility initiative has a side benefit. To support its electric urban mobility plans, Husqvarna says it plans to strategically expand its dealer presence in metropolitan areas.

Husqvarna Motorcycles keeps an open approach to all battery opportunities, aiding the parallel advantage of both fixed and swappable solutions. The E-Pilen Concept features a modular and swappable battery system allowing the power pack to be exchanged, extending the appeal and utility of electric motorcycles to those considering the switch.

It has always been the aim of Husqvarna Motorcycles to develop new products accessible to the broadest possible spectrum of riders. The E-mobility range will retain and continue the riding pleasure and dynamics refined through the long history and experience of the brand. In support of the E-mobility initiative, Husqvarna Motorcycles will strategically expand its dealer presence in urban and metropolitan areas.
