Ducati Reports Sales Record for North America in 2012
Thu, 17 Jan 2013Ducati North America set a new sales record in 2012, selling 10,883 motorcycles in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The 2012 sales represent a 21% increase over its 2011 results in a time where industry-wide sales have flat-lined. The growth further cements the U.S. as Ducati‘s largest market.
In 2011, Ducati Chief Executive Officer Gabriele Del Torchio announced U.S. sales had surpassed domestic sales in Italy as the company’s biggest market, a result of the company’s growth in North America combined with a fragile economy in Italy. That gulf has further widened with Ducati’s U.S. sales growing 21% in the U.S. At the same time, Canadian sales saw an increase of 25% while sales in Mexico grew at a much more modest 7%.
“Ducati’s new all-time sales record and the consistent growth in all North American markets confirm our customers’ extremely positive response to our products and marketing programs,” says Cristiano Silei, CEO of Ducati North America. “We are fully geared to continue this growth in 2013 with many highly-anticipated new products and our strongest dealer network to date.”
Motorcycle sales weren’t the only area where Ducati North America set a new record. Ducati’s apparel and accessories also saw new highs, with Ducati reporting a 42% growth in sales.
Ducati is hoping the growth trend continues in 2013 with its new expanded model lineup that now includes more touring-oriented models such as the updated Multistrada 1200, the Hyperstrada and the Diavel Strada.
