BMW Maintains Sales Momentum into 2014
Tue, 11 Feb 2014After three straight years of record motorcycle sales, you’d think things would eventually start slowing down for BMW. Instead, the German manufacturer continues to roll on the throttle with an impressive start to 2014.
BMW announced sales of 5,438 motorcycles and scooters in January, up from the 4,818 motorcycles sold in the same month in 2013. That’s a 12.9% increase from last January, setting a new company record for the opening month.
“After achieving an all-time high in 2013, BMW Motorrad has got off to a very successful start in the new year. With an increase of 12.9% as compared to the previous year, this was the best January sales performance in the history of the company,” says Heiner Faust, head of sales and marketing for BMW Motorrad. “We got off to a great start in most markets. There was significant growth in the U.S.A. in particular, as well as in the Asian markets. Our new products are in great demand all over the world.”
Even more impressive for BMW, the sales growth comes before the arrival of its six models added for the 2014 model year. It won’t be until spring that BMW dealerships will start offering the newest models including the new watercooled versions of the R1200GS Adventure and R1200RT, the K1600GTL Exclusive tourer, the naked S1000R, the R nineT anniversary special and, in Europe, the C Evolution electric scooter.
“In view of this wide range of new products and after a successful start to the year, we are confident as we look ahead to the upcoming motorcycle season,” says Faust.
